Morgan Patrick
What recoil spring weight should I use for my m&p pro 9mm? I have an Apex competition kit installed. I would like to hear your trials and errors instead of reinventing the wheel. Please be specific. What worked and what didn't and what were the specific pros and cons of each one. Help a brother out. Thanks!
beastfrog
Stick with the stock recoil spring.
want2race
I ran a shortened Apex striker spring, and an 11lb recoil spring. It worked on all ammo EXCEPT RWS. Super hard primers. I bumped up to a 13lb spring with the Gen 5 striker assembly (has a slightly stronger striker spring) to get the RWS to ignite every time.
Filishooter
I run a 13lb with a stock striker spring
Morgan Patrick
Are you guys using a captured guide rod and recoil spring or are you replacing it with a non-captured recoil spring and guide rod?
Morgan Patrick
Has anyone relaced the striker with an aftermarket striker? Do you need an extended striker after you put in the Apex ultimate striker block?
waktasz
I don't know of anyone who makes an aftermarket striker at all. And no, you don't need a new striker to go with the striker block.
bubbagum
I run a 13lb ismi spring straight out of my Glock 34 on a glockmeister captured guide rod. works like a champ.
Morgan Patrick
Has anyone tried the tungsten or stainless guide rods available from speed shooters specialties? Which one should I go with?
waktasz
I'm using a stainless rod....not sure where I got it from. I just didn't want to deal with the captured guide rod anymore so I switched.
Zerwas
Has anyone tried the tungsten or stainless guide rods available from speed shooters specialties? Which one should I go with? I'm using a tungsten in my M&P9L. I love having the extra weight out front, but that is such a personal thing.
Roundguy
Im running the 13# spring and a ss rod from speedshooter in my m&p 40pro have no complaints
MGMorden
I swapped to a Wolff 14lb recoil spring (factory is 16) and non-captured guide rod on my 9L. With the stock spring some loads at lower PF weren't cycling the slide reliably.
mcracco
But for the 5" M&P's who's springs are you using? Wolff says their M&P springs are for 4.25" models only ( I called to verify).
MGMorden
But for the 5" M&P's who's springs are you using? Wolff says their M&P springs are for 4.25" models only ( I called to verify). My 9L is 5" and the Wolff springs and guide rods are working fine. The factory part between the 5" and 4.25" models is identical, so there's no reason why an aftermarket part would be specific to either. The compact models do take a different part. My guess is the person you got on the phone just wasn't familiar with the fact that the recoil guide rod/springs were the same between 4.25" and 5" models. shotslow
I have a SSS guide rod and 3 springs to play with. Item 1669 is for the 5 in Pro only. Item # 1508 can be used with both the 4.25 & the 5 in Pro. It is about 3/4 inch shorter than the 1669 Edited September 19, 2011 by shotslow
