What's the Most Accurate Jacketed Bullet in .40

Hey ya'll!

So hollow points won't be allowed at World Shoot and I'm having to cook up a new recipe for a 180 grain bullet.

What jacketed bullet do you prefer and what powder do you use with it?

Truncated cone, flat point, round nose all feed through my STI so that isn't a worry.

Thanks!!!

My wife's M&P 40 performs quite well with Zero TC bullets but I have only loaded these to Minor PF.

One thing that I have heard many times and have also witnessed is that some barrels have a marked preference for a particular brand and weight of bullet. For example, where some folks have had great results with Moly-coated bullets, in my experience, their accuracy out of my pistol (even after extensive trials) was really poor.

My load is the 180 grain Precision Delta bullet, on top of 5.6 grains of Winchester Super Field, followed by a CCI 500 primer. Chronoed this past weekend, at the Ohio Sectional, at 172.4, out of my XDm.

Montana Gold 180gn CMJ at 1.180" with either Ramshot Competition or Universal Clays behind it. Silhouette works as well but there's a lot of flash and noise that amuses other people when shooting indoors.

Stepping out of action pistol shooting and simply answering a question about most accurate bullet.

First, 165 and 180gn JHPs are extremely accurate.

In my guns, the next level of accuracy are 175 and 155gn L-SWCs

Then, either jacketed 180gn RNFP or CFP or 175gn L-TC.

About the worst for pure accuracy (25 and 50 yards) are JRN or L-RN.

What you want for gaming may be very different, but those are the way my guns respond to the bullets I've tried.

My guns also haven't liked bullets lighter than 155gn or heavier than 185gn.

I shoot Zero bullets more often than not. They do make a truncated bullets. So does MG. I get great accuracy with both. If I did not have five years worth of chrono data, I would move to a 200 grain Zero instead of a 180.

Carina,

My all time favorite load is the 200gr Montana Gold CMJ.

I run it with 5.4 gr of VV 340.

It is everything I could ask from a competition round.

Burns clean, no smoke, extremely accurate, light recoil and makes about 172 pf out of my SVI.

Some favor lighter bullets and faster powders, but this one works for me.

It doesn't burn hot like titegroup, and you can't double charge a case without overflowing it.

I've experimented with a lot of different bullets and powders, but I always come back to this one.

Tls

P.S. This is top secret. Don't tell anybody.;)

I don't know what the rules say, but if you can get cleared to use the Hornady XTP you would have a distinct advantage over the other bullets, assuming they shoot well from your pistol.

Gaming the bullet… gotta love it!
