.40AET
I found the link to the 1911 store from Siglestack's thread on his new blasters from last year. I have wanted some sort of thumb shield for my limited gun. Does anyone know what is involved in getting the Kreb's fitted and how much does it cost. This looks like the ticket. Turnaround time's would be helpfull, I may want to wait untill this winter to get it fitted. Thanks for the help.
uscbigdawg
Contact Bob at Brazos Custom Gunworks as he's doing something either identical or similar to the Krebs thumbguard. I have it on my Brazos limited gun and love it. While I don't think that I ride the slide to need it, it is nice to have when I do cheat. Singlestack
The fitting is simple but it requires a mill. The grip is removed and a ~.25" long X .064 deep x .064 wide (I would measure it but I don't want to pull my grip off) groove is cut in the frame right above the grip screw parallel with the slide. There is a ridge on the frame side of the TS that fits in the groove and the grip holds it in place. It works very well and I like mine. As far as turn around time and price, I don't have a clue. My GS did it while I watched and we traded something (I don't remember what) for his efforts.
Jon Merricks
If you don't have a local gunsmith you will probably spend as much on shipping back and forth as you would having it installed. I’m trying to think of a good GS near MD but it’s slipping my mind right now.
.40AET
Thanks guys, Brazos is where I saw the thumb shield. It looks like a great idea. Shipping isn't a problem, work is nice enough to foot the bill both ways. I'll probably send it to Bob over the winter. Thanks again for the help.
