Firebrick43
I am thinking of competing in IDPA SSR division with my ruger police service six. I have need to get a holster and some speedloaders. Use a bianchi 5h now but it's not legal foe idpa due to the exposed trigger. Might get some kydex and roll my own or looking at a bladetech. Real question is speedloaders. I have one hks right now and am happy with it but only because I don't know about anything else? How many do I need? I am really confused about speedloader holders to? Blade tech has some but at 22$ a piece? And how I read the rules the speed loaders need to be enclose and the blade techs look open? What's kosher and what's not? Thanks guys Jay
John Z Sr
You have entered a tough world my friend. I have the Comp 3's and liked them until I borrowed some Jet Loaders from a revo brother, and I like them better. As far as what holders to use, my suggestion is to check with Bob at North Mountain Monnclips (link to him from our site) as he has all the best revo stuff (in my opinion)and follow the advice you get here.Good luck and welcome to revo world, where all the Cool Kids play!! Firebrick43
Doesn't look like they make CompIII or jetloaders for the ruger six series. Is there any real advantage of the compII compared to a hks?

Not much up on the Ruger line. I thinkd the GP 100 is a meiudm frame like the L frame Smiths. You may find the K frame Jet or Comp III will fit. Where do you shoot? Maybe a Revo shooter in your area may have a K frame Jet speedloader you could load from to test. Difference between a HKS and a Jet...The name should give you an indication....night and day. Where is blueridge he should know. later rdd OOPS! Did you mean the comp II's. Comp II's can be a little faster with no knob to turn...I should read better but I need pikshurs..later agin.rdd Edited May 14, 2011 by Bubber
Bubber
Just did some internet searching, since I have no match today and it said the Security 6 will not take the K frame either. Oh well that's what I get for thinking without the proper equipment... later, one more time, rdd

Thanks guys Jay I have been using HKS speedloaders with my Ruger Alaskan, and they have worked well for me. Another shooter on this board (COF) lent me some german made SL Variant speedloaders to try, and they work great. the SL Variants are similar in basic function to jet loaders and have springs in the mechanism that help with loading. The jet loaders have one main spring, and the SL Variants have springs behind each round of ammunition. I was never able to find jetloaders that worked with .45 Colt ammunition which is the caliber of the Ruger that I use. It seems that .38/.357 ammunition is easier to find the majority of the speedloaders in. I use the blade-tech speedloader holders, and they work for me. When IDPA refers to an enclosed speedloader holder, they mean the body of the speedloader horizontal and not the vertical height.
71Commander
Isn't the security/speed six the same demensions as the k frame when it comes to speedloaders?
Tom E
Isn't the security/speed six the same demensions as the k frame when it comes to speedloaders? Nope, unfortunately the security/speed six is an oddball. Best way to go is probably Comp II's.

wlktheduk
The Ruger Security Six, Service Six and Speed Six revolver, in .38/.357 magnum uses the Safariland Comp II Speedloader, marked RGR R4C. Brownell's used to list them as stock # 797-200-004AA The HKS speedloader for the Ruger Security Six is the MK-3A, (which also fits the Colt's Mark III Trooper & Lawman revolvers) Brownell's stock # was 392-100-053AA In my hands, speedloaders for a Smith & Wesson K frame, will not work well in a Ruger Security Six. (which is why I have my speedloaders VERY clearly marked as to which revolver they go to now.... )
Firebrick43
How many pouches and loaders do I need for idpa
GSWEAR
You can have Three speed loaders on your belt at the start signal so three of each plus another loader for "Load and make ready" would be a good start and an extra of each would be nice but not necessary. Forrest Halley
How many pouches and loaders do I need for idpa I'd go with four pouches and 8 loaders. Theory being that you can have one extra pouch to hold your starter so you don't have to keep/lose it in a pocket and it's available when it's go time. Four extra loaders give you a stage ahead already loaded in case you get side tracked in between stages and spares for when you can't immediately find a punted loader or one malfunctions. Good luck, good shooting, and welcome to the Revolver Brotherhood!
COF
I've used the K Frame Comp 3 loaders for my speed six for a long time. They just don't give you much room for error. Lentz
Get some great products from 4wheelguns.com (Bob Perdue). They are a must for IDPA SSR competition, the 38 spl loading block is a lot better than other designs and it will fit in any range bag. I really like the tek locs on the holders for easy on and off the belt. The holders secure the speed loaders just enough so they will not fall out while running but will not snag and stick while doing your reload. Thanks Bob for the support in yet another Revolver division
jlweems
I owned a Security Six and used Comp-III loaders with it. I don't care for the HKS ammo holders (nothing speed about them) but they are a cheap method of accomplishing load and make ready. As for loader carriers, I like those from Ready Tactical: http://www.cpwsa.com/ready_tactical.htm
Byron Simpson
I use Comp II's with my Security Six. I prefer them to the HKS because they hold the rounds tighter and you don't have to twist the knob.
