t_kothmann
I would call PMC's legal department. A double charge in factory ammo is a serious safety issue. They should be more then willing to buy you a new gun - they could be paying your wife/family your life insurance had this gone terribly wrong. Lawyer up if they give you any crap - no reason you should have to come out of pocket for their issue. I have a feeling they will take care of you - much cheaper to fix your gun then deal with lawyers. i agree, one wiff of a lawyer and its time to put this issue to bed. Everyone knows a lawyer, though we may not admit it. If they don't treat you right, have him draft a letter full of fancy words and i bet you they change thier tune. After you give them the chance to do the right thing first.
usmc1974
That has got to be a metallurgical flaw. I can't imagine even a double charge doing all that damage. Very glad you are OK. I am very interested in seeing what the manufacturer of both the gun and the ammo have to say. IMHO, I go with this. I have shot some pretty hot loads in my STI's and para's.Glade the shooter is ok. Jaxshooter
Do not send the remainder of the ammo back to PMC. If you do you will no longer have proof that you have ever purchased PMC ammo. If they replace or repair your gun then I would send it back if they request it but until then hold on to the ammo and the box and any other PMC ammo you have. If they don't offer to do anything you have the balance of the ammo to take with you to your attorneys. Hopefully it will not nor should it come to that. 38superman
First, I'm sorry this happened to your gun and very happy you're not hurt. I'm sorry to say that I'm not surprised that no one is stepping up to take ownership of the problem. No manufacturer is going to admit fault unless it can be proven that the defect belongs to them and not the other guy. Unfortunately that would take some pretty extensive forensics, and the expense of assigning blame will fall squarely on you. You could probably buy a new gun cheaper than you could determine the actual cause of the accident. I once had an out-of-the-gun bullet detonation once which I firmly believe was related to a faulty primer. There was a minor injury to a family member that was standing nearby. I corresponded with the primer manufacturer and politely asked them replace the primers I bought from that lot of primers. I also asked them to cover the doctor visit that resulted from the injury. Every communication was met with a request for more information. After endless letters and no result I gave it up and decided I would never again use their products. Flexmoney
I though there was some bad PMC 40 ammo around a few years ago. Maybe this is some of that old stock?

gixxerjunky
^^^ my thoughts as well. Wait until they see the price tag of that STI. If there are anything you want different with the tip half of your gun might as well do it now and hope they pick up the bill lol.

GuyC
Went to the range today to do a few drills, and the 26th shot barrel blew up. does any one now if there is any kind of warranty through STI. This was with PMC factory ammo not reloads. the gun maybe had 1000 rounds through the gun. It bowed and cracked the slide also. What safties are those? And they told me to send them a quote from my gunsmith to repair the gun. That's unusual that they didn't want a contact name at STI. I've had this happen to two customers with Wolf ammo and a Glock and Federal ammo and a Glock. In the case of the Wolf ammo it was a squib round stuck in the barrel and then the next round fired into that. I sent the guns to Glock and they waited on word from the ammo manufacturers. In both cases I sent a copy of the original receipt along with the reminder of the 50 round box that the hot/squib rounds came from. In both cases they paid for the guns to be repaired at and by the manufacturer. I would not have a third party gunsmith, qualified or otherwise, repair a gun damaged in this manner. What about the factory warranty or factory specs? I would insist that PMC pay to have it repaired at STI. Nobody at STI will work with you on this? In my examples, Glock replaced the entire slide and barrels in both guns. No questions asked.

motowrecker121
Well I called STI on tuesday to have them ship me what is left of my gun. They told me it was almost done being rebuilt. He didn't go into why they changed there mind or anything, he just said it will be all set when I get it back. So that makes me happy that they did this Ben
usmc1974
STI is good about this stuff. I sent them a 9mm escort that had the rear sight cut wrong. They made a new slide added a new barrel and even added a Dawson fiber optic front sight. Then refinished the whole gun shiped it back all free. hankfan79
Well good for you. Now get a quote from them and send it to PMC. This is oviously their fault and STI should be compensated for what they did.
