The Ghost of Mrs. Peebles

"Quotes",one of the most misused words in the English language according to my high school debate coach, Mrs. Peebles.

One "quotes" (a verb) a source, i.e., of what someone said.

One cites, refers to, or shares their "quotation" (a noun), i.e., what it was that they said.

So, one should never refer to what they said as "a quote", but only as "a quotation".

At 4'11" she was still the moral equivalent of a DI on such things. Had they allowed it, she would have had us drop and give her 50 for grammar infractions.
