Goody
Has anyone found a way to seat primers a little deeper on the SDB? I am loading mainly 38sp on it, these seat just flush. Also have another 2 SDB, one in 44sp, one in 45LC, both of these are just flush. My two 550's will recess the primer ever so slightly, which is what I would like on the SDB. BMartens
I've never had a problem with my SDB's and primer depth. Push the handle all the way forward and see if the primer punch comes all the way up through the shellplate. If it comes up through you don't have an adjustment problem. I have a batch of .45 Colt brass that seems to have somewhat shallow primer pockets and seating primers just level is the best they will do. Never had that problem with any other cases though and small primer rounds are always .001-.002 below case head.
dillon
The SDB should seat primers as deep as your RL550B. Be sure your bench top isn't plywood- that flexes more with the SDB due to the smaller footprint. Some brands of primers seat easier than others as well. When I go forward with added pressure I can see the table flexing a little. I will try and brace it somewhat and see if that changes things. I discounted that since I have room for three presses to mount on Strong Mounts on the bench. The only ones that don't want to seat well are the SDB's, the 550's both have no problem when mounted.
