double_r76
I'm looking for suggestions on which compensator will work on my Glock with the Lone Wolf 40-9 conversion barrel. It is a 9mm barrel threaded 1/2x28 but has a larger barrel profile to fit in the G22 (.40S&W) slide. BTW, I know LWD makes a comp specifically for this barrel, but I'm looking for something more effective at reducing muzzle rise. Thinking Jager, SJC, Carver, etc. Anyways, the LWD comp is absolutely hideous (IMHO). The other option is to have the barrel turned down between the shoulder and slide opening... or have the comp reamed out for the larger barrel. However, I would prefer a plug & play solution and leave a machinist out of it. Thanks! -Randy
BillChunn
Tried the LWD comp for 9mm on my Glock 34 and could not get it to be 100% reliable. The additional weight on the end of the barrel messed up the unlock timing. Went with a Carver and a little tuning by my gunsmith and he had it up and running. I use it for 3-Gun competition only (no powerfactor as the rules are "bootleg" 3-Gun). HH
kyojin
I've got the Jager comp and I like it. Shoots very flat. I had the LWD comp and didn't like it. I've shot my friends with the SJC and it was nice.
Whitefish
I have a Jaeger comp with KKM fitted barrel on one gun and the newer SJC 11 port comp with KKM fitted barrel on another. Both use a slide mounted sight. The SJC 11 port is marginally flatter and softer than the Jaeger, but not enough to make any significant difference in the shootability of the guns. The SJC 11 port is a longer comp if that matters to you. I use Silhouette with Zero 125 JHP's. The guns run reliably and are very shootable with either comp. Whitefish
You still need to check whether either the Jaeger or the SJC comps are available in 1/2 x 28 thread pattern your barrel has. My comps are both threaded for 9/16 x 32 that is the standard for KKM barrels. I believe Jaeger now makes comps with 1/2 x 28 threads, but you should give the vendor a call or check his website to make sure.
BlueOvalBruin
Your options for the 1/2x28 thread are the Jager and SJC 5-port comp. The 11 port comp has a different thread for KKM barrels.
double_r76
Thanks for all the input! Anyone know if any of these 9mm comps will fit over the 40-9 conversion barrel's larger profile? Thanks, -Randy
Whitefish
Looks like I misspelled Jager in my earlier posts. Oops. Sorry about that. I just took my spare 9mm Jager comp out and tried it over the end of a non-threaded BarSto Glock 35 forty barrel. The hole behind the threads is larger and it goes easily with room to spare, so you should be fine with a 40-9 conversion barrel threaded 1/2 x 28. And, I just checked the Jager website and he does offer 1/2 x 28 threaded 9mm comps.
double_r76
Awesome! Whitefish, I really appreciate you checking that for me. I was hoping the Jager or SJC would fit, since those seem to be the most favored and effective. I'll have to add a Jager comp to my next parts order. Thanks! -Randy Edit for spelling... Bansheex
I have the same barrel and the LW comp. I'm less than impressed with the comp, and will be looking at the Jager and the SJC. I'm building the gun for my girlfriend and want it to shoot as flat as possible. I do have the option of designing a comp for the gun. I'm building comps for 22's, so I might just do one for the 9mm. CiDirkona
I've been very happy with the Carver 4 port comp on my Lwd barreled Glock. 11lb spring for major and 11 lb minus a few coils for minor.
Graham Smith
From the Jager website: "Our recoil compensators ...<snip>... are threaded either 1/2 x 28 tpi for Lone Wolf barrels or 9/16 x 32 tpi for KKM barrels in 9mm. The .40 compensators are threaded 9/16x24 tpi." It doesn't look from this as if either one will work for you. Best bet is to drop them an email or call them. Garrett
Tried the LWD comp for 9mm on my Glock 34 and could not get it to be 100% reliable. The additional weight on the end of the barrel messed up the unlock timing. Went with a Carver and a little tuning by my gunsmith and he had it up and running. And the Carver likely would have been less reliable for you without your smith tweaking the gun. I beleive LW has two comps, one for Major, and the other for Minor (and yes - both are hideous). I have the Minor comp, and it still needs a reduced power recoil spring to get it to run reliably. I already had my gun set up with a slide-mounted red dot and the threaded LW barrel for a silencer, and the LW comp made for a cheap plug 'n play Open Glock. I think I almost shoot better without the comp, though. A tuned STI/SV it's not.
mpolans
From the Jager website: "Our recoil compensators ...<snip>... are threaded either 1/2 x 28 tpi for Lone Wolf barrels or 9/16 x 32 tpi for KKM barrels in 9mm. Not 100% sure it will match the profile of the slide perfectly, but you're not going to get the seamless look like you would on a 1911 or CZ/Tanfoglio platform due to the design of the Glock slide (unless you mill the face of it), so why stress about it?
