Ready 4 a New gun

As I get closer to buying a new gun I thought I would ask for some input, I am looking at a CZ-SP01 Phantom 9mm with a fiber optic front sight. It also comes with 2- 18 rd mags. for only $521. I am wanting to get involved in action/practical shooting via IDPA and USPSA. Next weekend I am going to get an opportunity to shoot one, so any input would be greatly appreciated.

that gun would be perfect for Production division; just need a kydex holster, CR Speed or DAA belt and 4-5 mag pouches along with at least 3 more mags. factory ammo is fine for now but eventually you'll probably want to invest in a reloader if you shoot a lot. a reloader will pay for itself real quick. then you'll want to get more guns to shoot in more divisions, and thats how the madness begins :goof:

good luck

That sounds like a plan let the madness begin, I do intend on investing in a reloader at some point, I carry a Kahr .40 and go thru 100 round a month

(and would shoot more except for cost) Thanks for the info on the CZ I very excited to finally get to shoot one.

The PO7 has a tupperware frame, the SP01's extra weight in its metal frame would make it easier to control, especially for an inexpierenced shooter, and the price is about the same for either. IMHO. I really like my Shadow, with its heavy frame as opposed the the wife's standard 75B, both have metal frames but the Shadow's extra weight helps keep flip down and makes it easier to get back on target faster. For everyday carry the PO7's ligher weight would be an advantage.

I'm with Mr Bolo above. I like the extra weight of the standard SP-01 to reduce the flip. If you can find a local range with rental CZs, it'd be worth your time to go shoot a mixture. Between all the models, there must be 5 different incarnations of that one gun, and the CZ specialty shop, Ghost Products, offers 3 or 4 different states of tuning.

It's mind numbing.

Good advise. I hope to make it to Bud's in the next few weeks, they have a few different models so I can get a hands on comparison. The more I read, the consensus is the standard with its weight is better for less flip and quicker follow up shots.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated

I shoot a shadow and that pistol is pretty easy to shoot decent IMO. It definitely made me a better shooter. I would get a SP01 over a phantom. The phantom will be a PITA to find holsters for and they seem to have quality issues like the P07 did. The P07 is a good carry gun though. You could also look at a P01 if you want a range gun and a carry gun.

The standard ? :roflol:

That's what I'm talking about. The "base model" comes 2 different ways: one with the 1911 style thumb safety, and another with a SIG-style decocker. The thumb safety version is by far the more popular since it can be brought to a higher state of tune.

By the time you finish chosing, you might wish you'd have closed your eyes and flipped a coin!
