match308
Anyone care to weigh in on the SX2 for 3 gun?
Jesse Tischauser
It is the 3rd or 4th best option for 3 gun after the M2 & M1 Benellis.
smokshwn
Or the 1st best option considering you can get an SX2 up an running for 3 gun under $8-900. Having had both platforms, I much prefer the Winchester/FN guns to the Benellis for anything other than Open division. Keep in mind the FN, SX2, and SX3 are all the same gun from an operational/function standpoint. Gun, mag tube, sights, and a little dremeling are all you need for the SX2 all can be done at home with a little care. Reliability easily matches the Benelli, plus the added benefit of being gas operated their recoil is a little softer.
J-Ho
I don't own an fn/Winchester but I've shot several. I would flip a coin to decide between a Benelli and FN. Both are good guns.
steviesterno
I have a similar question... Looking at possibly picking up the SX2, but it's in turkey gun format. Meaning it takes 3.5" shells. would I be able to run cheap stuff through it at matches without too much problem?

I have a 3 gun ready M1 for sale right now for $825. Its the 5th one in 3 months that I got ready for 3 gun for that price. Its more reliable with the cheap stuff. I would also stay away from the wally-world winchester bulks. The crimp sucks and its hit or miss. Federals are better IMO. As smokshwn says, you can built a kick ass rig for not too much money. There are a couple other threads here on SX2 / FN upgrades. Take a look at some of the things other people have done. Its a great platform to build a 3-gun shotgun on. I picked one up slightly used for under $400. For a couple hundred more in accessories and some polishing, the thing is a beast. I picked up these guns in gun broker or locally for $575 to $700 for the gun. Added a Nordic tube and welded the lifter. That's $80 from Nordic and $40 from C-Rums or in my case $70 from Accurate Iron for the lifter install and tune. All you "need" to add to a Benelli is a tube and the lifter. The rest of the cool go fast stuff is icing on the cake. So gun plus $120-150 and your ready to rock.
steviesterno
It was my understanding that you can't get a new piston for the SX2 turkey gun? Is that not true? Because there is one ANIB with fiber optics here locally for $
Big Bore
I've been running a SX2 3 inch for a few years now with no issues. Paid 500 bucks for it, put on a magazine extension Dremeled out the loading port, shortened the lifter, and put on a set fiber optics. Haven't changed the piston. Just picked up a second SX2 that is a 3.5 inch,I have only shot a few rounds through it I haven't had any issues with it. I think they are good option for 3 gun. Shoots soft, reliable, inexpensive. Link here: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=493004 I also shoot the SX2 made for 3.5" Magnums. Because there is one ANIB with fiber optics here locally for $600 The newer SX2 and SX3's were shipped with two pistons (one heavy one light) . Go check out the gun you intend to buy, I would bet it has both pistons in the box. If not you can either order the lighter piston or go with Power Custom's replacement piston. steviesterno
After reading up on it, I found that you only need the light piston if you want to run 7/8ths or 1oz loads. I've always shot and buy 1 1/8th, so it should be fine. I bought the gun today and ran almost a box of ammo through it... worked like a champ! the silly mag plug was in it so couldn't run it at full tilt, but the thing cycles crazy fast and the turkey choke that's in there now make nice patterns. Might have to run thing thing soon!
MustangGreg66
How's the SX3 Flannigan gun stack up? There's one for sale that I was looking at, but I'm not sure since it's got a 28" barrel and 11 round capacity with the tube extention... I'm only thinking of shooting tactical/limited, not open so I'm thinking the extra length will be more of a burden than an advantage (capacity). From what I've read some places let you start with 8+1 and top off after the start, some let you have no more than 9 in the gun at any time... What do you guys think about that gun for tactical/limited?
