G34 vs. G35

I bought a new G34 several months ago, and I spend the majority of my shooting time/ammo/dryfire with it. I shoot it fairly well, but for some reason I can still shoot my G35 better.

For example, at a range trip yesterday I was having a decent day. 95%+ of the hits stayed in the "A" out to 20 yards or so, shooting from different positions. After 200 rounds of 9mm in the G34, I got the G35 out of the bag and I couldn't miss! The gun felt so much more "comfortable" and solid. WHY? Is it simply the 3oz (loaded) weight difference?

The guns are set-up alike; same sights, same grip tape, same trigger parts, etc.

Does the weight of a gun really make that much difference?

Might be that you had 200 rounds of practice before you picked up the 35?

Are you reloading? Could be there some minor issue with crimp, seating depth or bullet weight that gives you a touch less inherent accuracy with the 34? Some guns just don't like certain combinations.

Or, perform a search on the mental aspect of practical shooting. If you truly believe you will shoot better with the 35, you will.

I'm assuming you are shooting production division. There are no disadvantages to shooting a 35 over a 34 in production. Some shooters say they like the "softer" impulse of a heavier bullet traveling slower. Whatever the reason, sounds like the 35 works for you. Enjoy it!

I shoot my G34 faster and my G35 more accurately.

I seem to focus on my grip more when shooting .40S&W versus 9mm in my Glocks... completely unintended in anticipation of managing recoil of the harder hitting round. I'm working on tricking myself into shooting my 9mm with the same amount of dedication to my grip.

Good luck,

You need to do more investigating. The factory barrel in my brothers g34 would not shoot well at all. His G35 factory barrell shoots lights out.

Take both guns and shoot them off of sand bags for groups. That will eliminate some possibilities for you.

I shot again today with just the G34. I tried some new reloads loaded longer, and they were quite a bit better. (3.1gr TG, 147gr Berrys, 1.145 OAL on the new ones vs. 1.130 on the old ones) I sandbagged it, and the accuracy difference between the 2 loads was noticeable! Apparently, it likes a longer OAL.

Thanks for the tips!

Funny you mention the barrels. My G35 has a KKM barrel and it's a shooter! The KKM barrel in the G34 doesn't shoot as well as the factory tube at all. I'm shooting Berrys and TG in both guns.

I have had the same experience with my G34 and 35 and I concluded the difference is all in my head. I know the 35 has more recoil so I concentrate a little harder on keeping the muzzle steady through breaking the shot. I think the human brain is such a powerful force that an additional iota of concentration can produce remarkably better results.
