Red Ryder
while reloading on my 650, on the up swing... BOOOMMM. I thought just one primer went off, but on disassembly I realized that all the ones in the feed disk and some in the tube went off. Some melted in the tube and the assembly is junk. There is a nice primer sized whole in the ceiling and that plastic low primer tube warning rod is mangled. My ears and face hurt from the blast, but I am not hurt. My pride is hurt. I hope Dillon will replace it.

Bob DuBois
In the time I've been reloading on my 550's I've had two primers pop. I've heard of other machines blowing the whole primer tube. It happens that why always wear glasses, always put the top on the powder measure as soon as you put powder in. Keep powder stored away from primers. Treat these machines with the same respect as a pistol, they can hurt you.
Sarge
One of the minor drawbacks to the 650 is that if one primer goes they can all go. The 550, they are more segregated so it is less likely to set off more than one.

I think I tried to seat a new primer onto a half deprimed case. A buddy just called me and I was talking on the phone. He was talking my ear off. The press didn't "feel" right but I thought is was just a "tight" primer pocket. Distraction was the enemy. I usually stop and check those cases. My ears are still ringing. About 80 primers were detonated or melted and trapped in the primer assembly. I was wearing glasses thank god. A bunch of stuff hit my face but drew no blood. Sarge
No doubt! I'm glad you are OK. Call Dillon Monday and they will most likely make it right.
whistlepig
Dillon will fixee....... U may be right on the cause, but also be aware of trash/debris collecting in the spot a primer rests in. they seem to collect small bits of whatever and the seating of a primer with a foreign object in between the ram and primer can (and has) cause detonation. good call on the safety glasses
TheTailor
Just a few weeks ago I had my primer system blow up as well. Guess what primers, Federal SPP. I stopped using them immediately and now use Winchester. The difference in primers is huge, the Winchester are much harder compared to the Federal. Dillon took care of me. Red Ryder
The Replacement parts arrived in less that 48 hours! Dillon's customer service is hardcore awesome! I just loaded 200 rounds and all of me is intact. I will finish up the Federal SPP carefully, but I have 5000 winchester SPP on order. I am still not sure what the exact cause was and I hope never to figure it out with a repeat episode. My hearing is better now.
Brian N.
I had a whole tube go up on my 650 'cause the indexing ring (plastic part that moves the shellplate) broke. Seated a primer right into the shellplate. Couldn't figure out why until I replaced the assembly (which, BTW, dillon replaced no-questions-asked).
