wi shooter
My 10yr old daughter wants to shoot the rim fire steel challenge this year, with my MKII. I would like to put some better sights on it for her, but have not been able to find anything decent. I would like to find something similar to Dawsons if possible. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Wild Gene
She is young enough to have good eyes, not like us over 40's (me), I would stick with all black sights so she can learn to really focus on that front sight. Rimfirecentral.com is a great website for anything .22, but a little hard to search. It is not moderated as well so there are literally hundreds of duplicate posts, but still a very good source. I have shot a 22/45 and really like the sights it came with. Only thing I would do is put bigger serrations on the front sight if they are similar on the MkII. wileecoyote37
Talk to Dawson Precision - I heard that they are going to make a fiber optic sight for the 22/45. Don't know if it's true but I hope so. I want one to match my limited pistol sight.

photoracer
While black might be Ok I find I don't like all black. Even on my IPSC Limited gun I at least painted the front sight dayglow yellow and left the rear all black. On my .22 iron sight gun I first tried a blade rear and a HiViz FO front. That was better in fact. Made the front sight stand out better. Now however I use a full set of Williams FireSight fiber optic sights. With my 63 YO eyes I usually have to use a special set of glasses with short focus in my dominant eye to see the front sight well. But with the Willaims they stand out enough so I can use the regular glasses I use with my open guns.

Volquartsen makes a comp for your Ruger that incorporates a fiber optic front sight. You remove your old front sight, put the comp on, tighten the set screw and you're good to go. I have one and it is really nice. They also have a good quality adj. rear sight if you'd like to change that too. Hope this helps.
ShootsinRain
Tactical solutions also has fiber optic sights for their barrels but my TS fo front sight was the same height as my stock iron sight. You might give them a call.
cferree
You can buy the fiber optic front sight that Ruger puts on their Hunter models direct from Ruger. Add a Volquartsen TL200 rear site (think Bomar) and you'll have a great combination.

Don't let your daughter shoot someones Browning Buckmark otherwise at her age she will want to get one. Their grip tends to feel a lot smaller and easier to shoot than Rugers, plus the gun is lighter even without an alloy barrel on it. Every female in our club from 10 YO and up has ended up with a Buckmark over their parents/husband/boyfriends Rugers. They have also ended up with red dots shooting open class. Bansheex
I agree with Photoracer on the Buck Mark. Unless you want her to start out using iron sights, a red dot would be the best sighting option for her. I have had both the Ruger 22/45 and the Buckmark. I ended up going with the Buck Marks. Just personal preference, but we have red dot's on all three. My girlfriend started out with iron sights, until she shot my gun with the red dot. She really liked it! You can get an inexpensive red dot for her to try out, then if she really likes it move up to a C-More. Edited June 23, 2011 by Bansheex
kamikaze1a
I too wanted a sight more like my Warren setup. I wanted more light showing between the rear sight notch and front blade. Narrowing the front blade seemed harder so I instead widened the rear notch. Pretty much got the result I wanted...5 minutes with a file.
wi shooter
Well, my daughter shot a buck mark with a c-more today. She has been shooting my MKII, but I think I'm gonna get her a Ruger MkIII with a c-more. She says the grip is better for her on the Ruger, but the c-more is way cooler than irons. Oh well, whatever it takes to keep her having fun, right?
cferree
My "other" MK III 22/45 has an Allchin C-More mount and comp. John was great to work with, and I was impressed with quaility of the mount and comp. I'd attached a pic of the finished pistol, but the quality stinks. wileecoyote37
I just got a fiber optic front sight from Tactical Solutions for my 22/45. It fit just great and did not change the point of impact/aim at all. The sight is a little shorter than the ruger sight but a little cold bluing and you couldn't tell. I really like it.
