Cd662
Thankfully, no DQ or safety issues on this one. I was shooting an informal IDPA-lite match today (some IDPA rules were followed, others weren't). Trying to stay in good practice, I have my speedloader carriers in IDPA compliant positions, two on the front of my belt and one behind. The stage involved starting with the loaded gun on a table while the shooter was sitting, grabbing the gun, and engaging two very close targets, then standing and shooting the remaining three in tactical sequence. I'm trying to get comfortable and mentally remind myself about the tactical sequence. The first array goes well, I have a pretty decent reload with my speedloader, and I go to stand...and the chair comes with me. I kept my cool, gun was downrange the whole time, but I was upset that I was having a pretty good day before that. The edge of the folding chair had got caught on the back of my speedloader holder as I stood up. I was the first shooter on the stage and the only person with a third ammo carrier behind the belt. The RO was sympathetic enough to say he'd knock off five seconds from the time. Lesson learned - when starting from a sitting position, do not actually sit on the chair as if you were sitting normally. Sit on the edge.
Sarge
I only shoot USPSA but we have a good number of chair starts as well. The trick is when your back has to touch the back of the chair. There is an art to getting up from a chair with mags around your waist. Good job on staying safe!
Chris Keen
What you want to do goes completely against everything your teachers in grade school taught you ..... you want to slouch just enough so that your back is not completely straight, but is still touching the back of the chair. If the stage procedure allows it .... if not, just be careful.
Cd662
I went to private Catholic school, nuns with yardsticks, I'd be afraid of a ruler beating if I slouched!
