JerryShoots
Hey guys. Here are some photos of the "mostly" finished Project Citadel. I intend to see how a tuned import 1911 can fare in USPSA single stack. Please look at the photos and note anything you say that may be beyond the rules for the division. I have not refinished the frame since I am undecided whether or not to undercut the trigger guard. I have refinished the slide since I flat topped it. If you see a problem please not the specific rule you feel is broken by the gun. I have spoken to Mr. Stevens more than once on this build so I'm fairly confident it is legal beagle. Thanks guys! Also I got this done for under a grand in house. That's counting the regular price of a Citadel not the price I paid. My own cost was much lower. shootingchef
I get a strange feeling when I see the SV trigger in this thing. I bought a Citadel, purely impulse buy, I replaced the internals as the small parts were cheap. It runs great, eats any and all ammo. I would like to know how the frame and slide hold up over time. I'd sell it, but I doubt I could anything close to what I paid for it.
JerryShoots
Oh this thing runs like a top. It took a lot of work getting it smooth but this gun eats and ejects everything I throw at it and it shoots very tight groups as long as I do my share Sadly I get the feeling that the overseas guys are almost building a better base model gun that the local standard manufacturers these days. wgnoyes
I'm not sure you can undercut the trigger guard; I don't see anything in App D5 that supports that as a legal modification. As I understand it, the ultimate idea of an undercut trigger guard is that the gun rides lower in your hand for enhanced recoil control, so it would seem that item 22 disallows it. (The finger groove on the Hogue grip might could also be construed as a recoil control device under #22.) But I won't try to say that with any sort of authority and I may be wrong; best to consult Gary or John first before potentially ruining a great build. If my concerns seem silly, well..., let's just say I've seen NROI produce some silly rulings before.
JerryShoots
Good call man. I had wondered about the Hogues. They came with the base pistol and I liked em so they stayed but I'm willing to bet your right about that one. I think I'll give it a set of VZ grips should be right in keeping with the looks I'm going for and after having shot a pistol with a set I'm sold on them. Thanks for the input
Doctorpc
Hello all new here to the board i just bought a Citadel in 38 super full size and i want to make sure i understant you are saying that the sight cuts are true Novak? i have been told they are not and would require extensive fitting to get Novack sights into them? thank you
dskinsler83
In uspsa I've never heard of an undercut trigger guard being illegal. If that was the case then the STI Trojan would not be legal. The grips shouldn't be illegal either. And please tell me why you think the SVI trigger would be remotely illegal?
steel1212
I've got a custom build with a undercut trigger guard, SVI trigger that has been to nationals twice and any majors I"ve been to the last 2 years. Nothing wrong with either. Actually its the one in my avatar. Edited April 12, 2012 by steel1212
