Nalapombu
Hey all, I see threads talking about custom 930 builds. I was wondering if the 930SPX is the same as the stock 930 but just has tricked out sights and such? Do they operate and function exactly the same? Internally are they equal? Thanks Nalajr
philg80
Yes, virtually the same. The SPX has a shorter barrel, picatinny rail, front and rear sights, and an extended mag tube. Works great with slugs, but leaves something to be desired for birdshot in USPSA matches. I prefer the choke tubes and vent rib with fiber optic sights for 3 gun. bkoenig
If you're considering a 930 my advice is to skip the SPX and get a standard one, then cut & rethread the barrel to get rid of the ports. The SPX would need to be rethreaded for chokes anyway, and with a standard 930 you can leave the barrel a little longer. The SPX has a +3 extension, you'll want a +4 or +5. The SPX's short barrel would mean the extension would hang out past the barrel. It doesn't really cause any problems but it looks funny. Plus most people find ghost ring sights like the ones on the SPX are slower than a bead or regular rifle sights.
