flip4179
I have searched many pages and not found the answer I had hoped to so yet another 9mm load question. Here's the load I'm thinking of. Stock G17 9mm 147 plated Rainier HP 3.0g titegroup 1.155 OAL Mixed brass cci primers Not looking for min power factor, just a nice soft shooting load that will knock some steel down and puch holes in cardboard at our local matches. We are not sanctioned and it is more about killing an afternoon than fierce competition. Does this load sound like it is shooter friendly? kellymc
I don't reload hp bullets but to me this load seems to light to work the slide on a g17 with a factory recoil spring. I vote Not shooter friendly
DWFAN
probably, but may not run the gun without lighter springs.
Sarge
Yep, pretty light. If the gun runs on it then it should certainly be a soft shooter. If the gun does not want to run reliably you can bump it up a tenth at a time and test fire. You are on the very low end of the scale so bumping a few times won't hurt anything. D.Hayden
A few years back I tried that in a G34 - gave me a PF of ~ 127. Worked fine in my pistol, but I bumped it to 3.2 to get a 130PF
flip4179
Thanks guys, I'll play around with some at 3.0 and 3.2 this weekend.
tac_driver
that is a pretty long OAL for a HP bullet I would try shorting it to at least 1.130" and 3.2grs of titegroup should be a good light load. I'm using 3.4grs titegroup with a 147gr PRN from berry's, OAL is 1.150". getting a 133PF from a G19.
Shadowrider
Have a friend that ran 2.7 of Titegroup through his M&P9 with 147 hard casts. Gun ran great but when he punched it up to make PF they tumbled like crazy. This happened with the factory barrel and an aftermarket match barrel. Also happened in a G17 with the factory barrel and an aftermarket. I doubt you'll have that issue with plated though.
45 Raven
I think everything that I would say has been said already, but I agree that your proposed load sounds pretty light to me. Also, I have had problems with both 9mm and 10mm Rainier bullets tumbling when fired in Glock pistols at MV's over 1100 FPS. And in the loads that DID NOT tumble when using these bullets, accuracy was horrible at distances beyond 15 yards when the velocity was approaching the aforementioned figure. YMMV. perrysho
RAINIER 147 RNFP 147 RNFP is the bullet I load for Steel Challenge. 3.5 Gr TITEGROUP OAL 1.125 I check length with barrel & EGW cartridge checker. Recomend same. Your charge may be light to opeate the pistol, may have to increase a lil. Got a Chrono ????? Perry
EliColotta
I'm using 3.0 Titegroup with a Precision Delta 147 gr Jacketed Truncated Cone bullet. I'm shooting it in stock G17, G34 and G26 for GSSF matches. It is very comfortable to shoot and reasonable accuracy in the these pistols. I would second the comment on OAL and shorten it up somewhat. Remember a plated bullet will seal up better than a jacket bullet and require less powder for the same velocity. Bottom line is load a few and test it in your pistol. If it's too light then add a .1 or .2. Good luck loading and shooting.
CocoBolo
You did say knock down steel right? A 147gr at 900 fps will make steel fall and that is just above minor at @133 pf.
flip4179
I ended up at 3.15-3.2 average on the TG. The length is a little long so I'm going to push them back in some, seemed to hang up in the mags. at 1.155. The couple I test fired were super soft. Am I going to have pressure issues if I push them in a little more? May go to the above mentioned 1.130 OAL.

May go to the above mentioned 1.130 OAL. 1.130 is what they tested for the Speer 147gr gold dot HP in the Speer #14 manual. 3.2 for a 147gr XTP is the starting load on the hodgdon load data website they have a min of 1.100 after speaking to a speer represenative I found out their mimium is 1.105. So I think you will be safe at 1.130.
