dskinsler83
Hey guys looking for advice on how much you all would pay and what kinda market is there for a LR-308 rifle with custom barrel? Rock Creek barrel w/ single point cut rifling @ 1:11.25" twist that the chamber has been head spaced off the bolt. 20" long w/ muzzle break and rifle length gas system fluted and installed by Predator Customs. All other parts are typical DPMS SASS components but rifle was built from ground up with this barrel. I know that most DPMS LR-308s go for bout $2000 new but the barrel blank alone in this gun was a lil over $400.
ClutchUSMC
I think whats hurting you is using DPMS parts and a great barrel. I would think that on Knights, Noveske, or even Aramalite parts you could get $3000 easily, but the way you describe it sounds more like a $2500 gun at best. A SASS is going around 1700 NIB, I cant see you really getting much more than $2200 in the real world. Customs are like that, unless you find the one guy who wants it exactly the way you did. dskinsler83
What's wrong with DPMS parts
ClutchUSMC
Nothing really, think of it like chevy vs bmw. They both work, they both get you there, both are probably just as reliable, etc. But the bmw costs more. I could talk about reliability, quality, fit and finish, etc. But we all know they will both work. So there is nothing wrong with DPMS parts, they are just cheaper. However, the guy who's gonna pay the big bucks and buy the 2k+ custom ar, more often than not is gonna want the BMW, and won't mind paying a little more for it. dskinsler83
I've always been pleased with the fit and finish of DPMS parts and this gun was built by Predator Custom Shop so it's done right.
Jaxshooter
You will find that alot of the uppers and lowers from various manufacurers are made in the same place and it is a matter of finish and fit rather than quality that differs from one to another. I also don't have any problem with the DPMS parts. I own one and have handled many others and have never seen a problem with either fit or finish. If you are building a precision rifle don't expect to get your money back of make money unless you get very lucky and find somebody that wants a build exactly like yours. double_r76
In my humble opinion: Honestly, you have to look at what kind of rifles you are competing with in that price range. Dealer price on a LMT MWS is in the $2100 range. GA Precision, Noveske, and Larue are all coming in under $3000, some well under $3000. All of these prices are for new guns... You basically have a $1800 gun (new DPMS SASS), with the $300 SASS barrel swapped out for a $400 Rock barrel, and had it assembled by a custom shop. I'm not sure what you paid for it, but I wouldn't value it for more than $2000 brand new. Maybe $1800 used, depending upon condition. I've heard good things about recent DPMS offerings, but they will never be worth as much as the rifles listed above. Most of this is an reputation/image thing left over from when they built sub-par AR-15 rifles with questionable parts. I bought one of those guns and will never own another DPMS product. Anyways, most custom shops are grossly overcharging for AR-platform builds. It's not like they have to true the action, fit bottom metal, bed the stock, thread oversized bolt handles, etc. -Randy Edit to take out some distracting stuff... dskinsler83
Which will shoot better? The accurized ar-10 or factory rem 700 Sps 308?
ClutchUSMC
Which will shoot better? The accurized ar-10 or factory rem 700 Sps 308? That's a loaded question if I ever saw one, no pun intended. For most people both would shoot better than the shooter could ever hope to. I'd say both are .75 MOA or less.
