Mike in CT
I am currently in CT so I am enjoying access to most firearms and hi-cap magazines. I am planning on moving back to CA and am investigating the IPSC scene in the San Francisco Bay Area. My concerns are with bringing in Hi-Cap mags and/or pistols not on the approved list (STI/SV). I have heard that the IPSC scene is alive and well with STI's and Hi-Cap mags in use, can anyone confirm that report? The other thing I have heard is that in regards to STI pistols or frames is that I can bring them into the state if purchased when I lived outside the state AND then I can sell/transfer STI pistols to other Californians as a private sale via an FFL. Why I am asking is that I am considering buying a spare pistol or frame but want to be able to sell it at some point if I do not use it. Any comments in regards to the current CA scene or sales/transfers of Pistols is appreciated, Mike in CT (Soon to be CA)
D.Hayden
You can bring in the frames and pistols that you had for personal use. If it gets excessive, I've heard the DOJ will consider it a business - but someone may chime in about that. There's a number of very active USPSA clubs in the SF Bay Area. (Richmond, Chabot, Concord) The mags - can not come in. People using > 10 round mags had them before the ban in California. There's no change to the law there. yoshidaex
Go to the Cal DOJ website to verify this but if you had/owned the hi caps while you were in Kali AND before the ban, I think you're allowed to bring them back in. Not 100% sure but double check please.
Mike in CT
Well that is good news on the guns and confirms what I have heard but I will call the DOG as well. The mags are a shame, I guess before I move I will have a mag sale or trade on the classifieds. Mike
trickpony
What if the mags were purchased outside of CA before the ban OR if they are purchase from an individual in CA who owned them prior to the ban (if that ever happens)?
ChuckS
What if the mags were purchased outside of CA before the ban OR if they are purchase from an individual in CA who owned them prior to the ban (if that ever happens)? Here is the law: (23) The importation of a large-capacity magazine by a person who lawfully possessed the large-capacity magazine in the state prior to January 1, 2000, lawfully took it out of the state, and is returning to the state with the large-capacity magazine previously lawfully possessed in the state.
