serevince
I would appreciate some help. Sorry if this is the wrong section. Of course I had planned on getting my Saiga 100% before my first 3-gun match, but it didn't happen. I'm about 85% done. It runs perfect with buck and slugs, and about 80% with high brass. It will fire, extract, and chamber, but it doesn't always reset the trigger. I have 4 12 round mags with R and R belt clips (Highly recommend R and R, great customer service!) or.. My friends 870 tactical and load singles from a dump pouch. Hopefully I won't time out the stages with my reloads! I would have to call the match director and change from open/ minor to tac optics, I don't know if that would mess up squads or how that would work? This is my first 3-gun. Thanks Vince
Bluetip84
I would not run a gun that is not (to the best of your knowledge) 100%. Most of the time it will cost you more in the long run than going with the 870 that will work if you but shells in it and pull the trigger. SinistralRifleman
Option 3: take the gas plug out of the saiga and run it as a straight pull spring assisted bolt action. Note this is much eaiser to do if you are a lefty using your right hand to run the bolt. All the reliability problems with Saigas are moot if you disable the gas system. I've thought about converting one to a spring assisted pump so it can reliably run anything, and also not hammer itself apart as fast service life wise. StealthyBlagga
Use this match as motivation to fix your Saiga. If it is ejecting 100%, then the hammer following problem you describe is likely isolated to the fire control group and can probably be diagnosed without live fire. As a starting point, try re-installing the original Russian hammer... I have seen the US-made replacement hammers cause problems in the Saiga 12. Also, check your trigger spring for correct location - some need bending to keep them securely located on top of the trigger. If the gun is not cycling well with lighter loads, then you probably need more gas - check the number and size of your gas ports, and whether any are occluded by the gas block. ShooterSteve
If you are going to this match just for fun...you will have fun. If you are a competitive person, I predict some frustration looming over the horizon....
serevince
Good news: Lubed and dialed in some gas and hit the range with a case of shells today. Dumped first mag of LOW brass perfect! Of course after that the trigger problem popped up and I was able to isolate it to the second hook which I assume is to prevent slam/ auto fire. It kept capturing the hammer and freezing the FCG. I brought it back and polished the contact areas and was unable to replicate the issue during dry fire! Bad news: I fired some slugs to confirm zero and was not even on the paper! I had shot my optic mount loose! I did not locktite two screws because they were captured under the optic. Doh! I ended up removing the optic entirely. I only had couple slugs with me and not enough time to go home and get more and rezero. I'll be just using the front bead and prayer on the long slug shots. (Note: I HAVE to find some reduced recoil slugs!) Oh and I left my scope caps at the range! This is my first three gun, I'm shooting open/ minor with a production pistol. Plus I'm just a mediocre competitor in production! I never planned on taking home 1st. I just hope to have fun, not get DQ'd, not time out any stages and hopefully learn a whole lot! Wish me luck... serevince
Saiga worked better than I thought, but not100%. Another competitor was nice enough to loan me a Benelli M2. I think I timed out all but 2 stages! I had a blast though! My rifle and shotgun fu were beyond weak. I did rock the pistol though. 7 shots a fast takedown of the Texas star is a personal best. Small victories! Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
