CMMG Midwest 3 Gun Championships

Recommended Posts

I know that this is not directly from the horse's mouth, but as far as dumping a "hot", safe'd firearm, I did speak to Ken Flood and several of the RO's at last month's CMMG match about this. The rules are not correct on the website regarding the abandonment of firearms. I was told by these guys that we will be able to dump a "hot", safe'd firearm just like USPSA and most other Outlaw matches. I know that this is how they were running last month's match. As far as 3 Gun Nation points, this match will NOT be part of the 3 Gun Nation Points Series. I know that all of this is not directly from the directors, but it is what several of them told me a month ago. Hope it helps a little!

I guess this is the part that is frustrating me the most. I've heard that dumping is OK, I've heard that I don't have to go to the meeting, I've heard a bunch of stuff, but it's all second hand. I really don't want to get there an pull a Neth. (Sorry Dave). It would be nice to have the actual match rules available to out of area folks more than a week before the match.

I completely understand! I do see that they cleaned off some of the items on the website! So, hopefully things will quickly come down the pipeline to us.

Where is the best place/town to get a hotel room for the match?

Probably Columbia, MO.

Definitely Columbia. I have a room at the Hampton Inn off of 63 and 70 in Columbia.

Columbia is definitely the place to get a hotel. Get one near the major intersections along I-70, like on either the I-70/63 or the I-70/Stadium Blvd interchanges. The hotels off the highway can be a little cheaper, but quite a few have been getting surrounded by ghettos.

This is the schedule off the website. When I registered the 3 Gun Nation guys still didn't have a final schedule out. That combined with Andy's 3 Gun National Championship Points Series, which this I think is a part of, is confusing the heck out of me. It's not a slam on Chad or Pete. I'm starting to see why this is not a 3 Gun Nation match this year.

So, I've never been to this match. Not much info on the match site.

What scoring system do they use? Looks like no slugs. That correct?

There were no slugs last year and no slugs in the past so I am assuming no slugs this year.

Last year was all steel for pistol and all steel for rifle except 3 paper movers. Some large plates required two hits on steel to neutralize or A's always knock it over.

Scoring was time plus penalties last year.

Between Columbia and Boonville what is closer/easier to get to the range to/from. Also which has a better chance of me not having to fire rounds while not at the match.

We have stayed at both Boonville and Columbia. I think Boonville is closer but either way

you have backroads and turns to deal with. Boonville is limited compared to Columbia for places to eat. Although the buffet at the casino isn't bad.

In Boonville, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express and it was decent and safe. I think there was a small place in Fayette also but don't recall the name.

[Edited about a solid paragraph of swearing that you did notwant to read]

I just caught the part about "1X optics allowed in Heavy Metal and Tac Irons"

I am so mad, my GF just freaked out and came rushing in here wondering what all the cussing was about. [she thought I found a way to injure myself on my PC...]So, here it is a WEEK before the match, and I find out I am going to be competing against rifles with optics... Dammint, that is the whole reason I have shot HM all these years, because my FAL with open sights was competitive against most every other HM rifle. Granted AR10's have taken over recently, but the requirement for open sights always kept the field mostly level.

Just what is so ever-loving hard about understanding the point of a NO OPTICS CLASS? If a red dot is the same as irons on a rifle, then why not on a pistol, or a shotgun? Why even bother having classes at all? Just lump everyone togeather and score us all in one big class.

It's very simple, Heavy Metal is a spec-class where you can't buy your way into a higher finish, because open sights level the playing field and make sure the software is still more important. Competitors that wanted to run optics had EVERY OTHER CLASS TO CHOOSE FROM, Why screw with HM? What's wrong with Tac-Optics Or Heavy Tac Optics, or even, just Limited? HM USED to be a safe haven away from the Gamers. I am dissapoint.

My theory is it's greed. HM gets it's own prize table, and since its a small class, the prizes tend to be pretty OK even if you are middle of the pack. With these rules, it won't be long before the middle of the pack gets a Sierra bullet keychain and a bag of catalogs for a prize.

Sorry for the rant, you migh notice I have strong feelings on the subject. I think I edited out most off the cuss words for the sake of the more tender readers..

My wife is coming along to the match and wants to know if y'all can recommend a fancy spa where she can go get get nails did and a massage. No rub and tug joints you guys frequent please. She wants classy. Lol!

Columbia's a decent place to spend the weekend. I'm sure that there are classy spas in Columbia, but I don't know any off hand. The mall area on the far end of stadium can take a while to work through & MIZZOU's campus is a nice place to spend the day too. And there's always Bass Pro. :D My wife & kids are coming too, but I think my wife has mostly planned on doing stuff with the kids and hanging out with old college friends.
