STIGUY
OK.....never nought the SPS as I really wanted the 1:10twist of the AAC SD model in case I ever wanted to shorten, thread and add a suppressor at a later date. I saw a Rem 700 Model Varmint Stainless Steel version ib a Bass Pro flier, but was "out of stock". Does anyone have or have seen this gun? I went to the Rem website and can not locate. Am I dreaming cause I misplaced the flyer. Any useful comments and/or assistance us as always greatly appreciated!
BigBore56
I just bought one..it is a NEW model for 2011, and is listed as the Fluted Stainless Synthetic VARMINT. Cost me about $700 w/tax. It is a .308 w/26" stainless fluted barrel. I sold the cheap stock and upgrade the X-Mark pro trigger to a new Rifle Basix 2# unit...then dropped it in an AICS 2.0 chassis. Gun shoots 1/2" to 5/8" groups with my handloads. Barrel is very smooth and does not show any copper fouling after initial 50 rounds. I shoot 168 SMK moly bullets over Varget. You will really like how smooth the stainless bolt/receiver is. I did lap the lugs, but they didnt' need a lot.
STIGUY
Bought one....but mine has a 24" non-fluted barrel. One of the reasons I got it was that it had a 1in10" twist as opposed to the 1in12 " of the SPS Tactical. Wanted to get the SPS Tactical AaC, but could not locate one.
