ChrisW
I have been searching and reading everything I can on here and it seems that 4.5gr of VV N320 will get me major using Precision 185 gr. I am not sure though about pressures. Some say you have to load long with N320 while others say it does not matter. I currently shoot 9mm 147gr Precisions with 3.5gr W231 but they smoke quite a bit. I want to switch to N320 and use it in both guns but want to make sure it is safe. It sounds like I have to watch my OAL in the .40 XDm because the magazines will not let me go too long. Please let me know what you are using in an XDm with VV N320 and how it is working with 185gr Precisions. Thanks, Chris
Avezorak
I have loaded vv320 with both Precision 185's and BBI 180's to 1.135. With 4.4 I was right at 162-165 PF with my XDM 40. 4.5 should make major. Wirh that said, I saw no pressure signs in 1x fired mixed brass, but the recoil was way more than I was interested in dealing with. There was a little smoke, but no less than my buddys Solo 1000 loads. As soon as my bullets come in, my new major load will be 4.8ish of Solo 1k over a BBI 180. Try the VV. It may work for you, but IMO the Solo does better, cheaper with less recoil.
ChrisW
How bad is the smoke with the Solo? I have also ready that WST is good but not sure how bad it smokes either. Thanks, Chris
pjb45
People load long because in the olden days, getting the .40 S&W at factory length was problemmatic. Loading longer emulated the 45ACP and increased reliability. With the advances today, many SV/STI high cap guns run reliably with factory ammo. It is really important to chrono your ammo. If you are going to shoot limited remember to get the guide rod changed to use a 1911 guide rod. You can also use a tungsten guide rod in Limited. The XD is a little light on the front end so you might experience some muzzle flip that a full length dust cover of an SV might not have with the same load. Thanks, Chris On video, there is quite a bit of smoke. As Im shooting, even standing still, its not noticable. Nowhere near as bad as W231
