Shot first multi gun this past weekend.

Recommended Posts

I shot my first three gun competition this past weekend, and did OK. I really need to find a way to load the shotgun faster, as I feel it was the one area where I was weak.

I used a Beretta 92FS for my pistol, and shot it amazingly well. It was the first time I used this pistol in a competition, btu I shot it for years int eh military.

I used a homebuilt Mega billet AR, with 5.56mm 16 inch BCM mid-length barrel, and Troy Battlerail.

For shotgun I used a Mossberg 500, with Knoxx stock and Surefire Light foreend. After the match I stippled the grip area of the foreend, as I felt I was slipping around too much. What is available to help me load the shotgun faster. I saw the 8 shell arm loaders from 3 gun gear, and am interested in a shell holder for the left side of the receiver also, but cannot find one made of plastic, I won't do nylon at this point. Are there other options?

I shot my first 3-gun this weekend as well. Loads of fun.

Don't quite know what you mean by plastic....nylon. The polycarbonate side saddles are easy to find for the 500. They are quite durable and shouldn't really be called "plastic". 3-gun Gear makes a sweet fabric elastic shell holder that can be cut to fit any receiver. You stick a piece of velcro on your receiver and the shell holder velcros to that. The RO for my squad was using one and it was NICE. Middle of next month I'll get one for my gun.

I'll also purchase a California Competition Works shell caddy as I borrowed one of those for one stage and liked it.

Shooting a shotgun is easy. Loading it is the hard part.

I was talking about 3-gun gear's nylon and velcro side saddle that you described. I would rather have plastic on the side of the gun, I think the rounds come off better. I would like to get a few of the shell caddies too.

Most of the side saddles are made of aluminum. Not sure how much weight they add and what shell retention is like. Pics show the shells stored in both directions so I assume there is some sort of retention spring inside them. Mesa Tactical and tactical shotgunner as well as a bunch of other sites sell them. They are pretty expensive. As for polycarb/plastic or whatever, I have no clue as to who makes them for side saddle.

I looked at the 3gun Gear's side saddle online and thought..."too cheesy". After seeing one in use at the match and being able to check out up close, I thought, "Hey, that's pretty nice." I also like the armband. I saw a few of those in use. Don't know how fast it would be compared to a shell caddy. I also tried getting ammo from a dump bag mounted to the front of my belt. While you can hold a crapload of ammo in a dump bag, I think the shell caddy was the fastest.

I had a couple Safariland shell holders (2 that held 2 each) mounted to the front of my belt. I really liked them but they take up too much space on the belt for too little ammo.
