I'm new to guns in general but I recently got my pistol permit in NY and bought a Glock 26 I have gone shooting at least once a week and been going through a ton of ammo. I have been enjoying the experience and now I'm considering picking up a target pistol in a 22 cal. I have been looking at several but don't know much about them so I hoping for some advice. I not looking to spend a lot in fact the reason is to cut down on the expense of shooting 9mm. I found a used Ruger MKii with a Red dot scope I'm not sure what brand but not a $30 Walmart special. They are asking $385 I'm not sure if this is A) a good gun for target practice or B ) a good price for the gun.

Any advice welcome thanks.

You can't beat the Ruger and Browning .22's -

question is, do you want to practice with optical

sights? Seems to me if you're shooting a Glock,

you'll want to stay with metallic sights on your

.22 - save you a few dollars, also.

Not a terrible price - but check out whether you

prefer Ruger or Browning first - some people love

the way the Ruger handles/feels, and I prefer the

Browning Buckmark.

Good luck. Where in NY are you - I'm in the

Hudson Valley.

I'm not to far in Rockland I was up the the range in Monroe on Wednesday real close to you. The shop that has the MKII has a couple one with and with out the sight I'm thinking of maybe buying it without the sight and adding and inexpensive one. The gun without the sight although it is not new it has never been shot. For $250 it seems like a good deal. The gun with the sight is missing the factory sights. I'm a little concerned that it may be difficult to break down and clean I was told putting it back together is tricky. As for shooting with the optical sight I just think it would be cool to have there is not much in common with this gun to my Glock I just enjoy shooting and the 22 would be fun and much cheaper to shoot.

I went to another dealer and held the Browning Buckmark and I have to agree I liked the feel and grip. I would like to find a used one if I can the Rugers are very popular so used ones are readily available. I didn't realize there where so many different models on the Ruger 22. I also want to to check out the S&W 41 which I have heard good things about.
