9mm Major vs .38 Super

I know the advantage of 9mm major is inexpensive used brass

(that's why I went with a 9 mm major three years ago), and

the disadvantage is little more trouble to make them go

without malfunctioning (firing 9mm major loads in a .38

super mag) - my TruBor went 1.5 years without a single

malfunction, until recently when I switched springs, and

now it's been perfect the past three months, again;

BUT,,

Just on the subject: Can a .38 super use "better" powders,

and "better comps", and have more gas production, so that the

muzzle rise is less or faster -

Are you getting faster splits with your favorite load

for a .38 super, vs the 9mm major? Is this a real

advantage of the .38 super?

Any real life experience would be appreciated.

I have 2 guns barreled in both Calibers 38S and 9 major, so they shoot either. In the shootability only comparision the 9 major is just as shootable as 38S in a properly configure apparatus aka open gun.

I've owned a trubore in the past and the muzzle rise was a bit beyond what I wanted so it got holed. A #3 poppel hole half inch back from the end of the slide. It was in 38S. The preferred powders in the gun were N105, AA#7, AND 3n38. In short it needed a lot of gas to work properly, the caliber won't change that. The gun also got the fat whacked off the slide down to 10oz, a significant weight loss.

If you are going to go 38S I recommend the Dawson Awesome Comp in either caliber.
