Hornady vs Montana Gold

I bought a bunch of Montana Gold 155 gr JHP's My question is this, the MG is .005 in. longer than the hornady XTP,can I use the same data for the MG as the XTP? I've made up some dummies and they feed well by hand so the oal is ok for that but is .005 in. a difference that should concern me?

According to Hodgdon's data, 8.5gr longshot is a midrange load when seated to 1.125". I wouldn't give it a second thought unless you're cramming the bullet all the way in to the case. Then you have bigger problems then .005" of bullet.

Good luck :)

I also would not be concerned about the .005". What you do need to do is re-chrono your loads.

You will get more or less FPS out of the new bullet/load. Also, when you test them, make sure you test with the mag fully loaded and then a few time with only 2 or 3 left. You want to make sure the last round feeds reliably.

I have a question. What is it about being the last round in the mag that causes a failure to feed?

I have just started reloading for my Beretta 96 pistol but have been loading shotgun and rifle shells a long time. I had very good success using 3.8 grs of Clays and 8.0grs of Longshot using 155 gr Hornady XTP bullets with an OAL of 1.127". These functioned perfectly.

For economy I ordered some 155 gr Rainer bullets to use for practice. I loaded 5 rounds 3.4 grs of Clays and 5 rounds with 3.6 grs of Clays and they had an OAL of 1.127". When I shot these, they did fine until the second to last round in the magazine and each time the shell ejected, but the action did not return turn to battery because the last shell hung on the magazine.

Any ideas or suggestions.
