Mec-Gar mags with dimples

I looks like the current .38 Super and .45 ACP Mec-Gar mags have a dimples at the bottom of the sides of the mag tube. I'm guessing this is an old design from when mags were limited to 10 rounds?

Has anyone "removed" these? I got a .45 Tanfo and I need mags, but I don't "need" another side project.. ;)

Sounds like the magazines we used to use in England. If I recall the bases of the magazines were just wide enough to allow rounds to slide past the follower if you put too many in there. Someone redesigned the followers to prevent that happening so people strarted drilling out the dimples to get some extra rounds it. I don't think were made that way as a restriction on capacity it was just to make sure the rounds didn't slip past the follower.

I have some of the old 38super mags that have the dimple at the bottom. they hold 18 rounds as is I have removed the dimples on some of them to put hennings base pads on and with them they hold 24 rounds. with the dimples removed and the stock spring and follower they still hold 18 rounds, so I dont think they were there with capacity limitation in mind. I bet it was done to help center the spring in the tube, or something like that. Weather you would be able to pick up a extra round of 45 with the dimples out I dont know but I remember that they held 10 before the capacity limits were put in place.
