Trouble with Shooting Chrony

My F1 works fine with pistol bullets but I can't get a reading with .223's at all. Just one ERR after another. But mine is over 10 years old. Possibly I can send it back for upgrades?

I'll try not being under the cover at the range.

Using a black sharpie on the rifle bullets? Really?

Yes, it adds contrast so that the sensors pick up the bullet. It becomes the shadow.
