sasquatch981
Hi, Here is the situation, I have an STI that with the 1 round left in the magazine the slide locks back. I have read in the FAQ that there are several ways to get the slide to "not lock back at all" however, I want the slide to lock back on an empty magazine. Can anyone help, with a fix, and if possible post or e-mail mail some pics of how the fix works. I have been told modfiy my slide stop, or put a dentent somewhere, but can't quite figure it out. Thanks for any help. Matt
David Olhasso
The problem is almost guaranteed to be that the follower comes up too far in the mag with one round left. The solution is to grind/file/cut about .030 or so off of the follower where it contacts the slide stop.
Norwegian Viking
A friend of mine had the same problem ,we found out that the shockbuffer was the problem. If you use buffers try taking it out and then see what happens.
diehli
Beven Grams' new springs and followers have got mine working the way you'd like. Check 'em out.

MoNsTeR
I also had this problem caused by a buff, but that was in a single-stack...
rhino
I had the same problem in my Para back in 1995, also caused by a shock buff at first. I've never used them in any guns since then. Then it started happening again a while later, but I fixed it with better mag springs (Wolff). I recently found one magazine that is doing it again, so I'll probably try a new spring and see what happens.
Detlef
it's a very common problem on 1911-style guns. Some file material off their (many..) followers, some off their (one...) slide stop. I usually do the latter and end up with a gun that does not lock back any more at all, not even on an empty mag. No sweat in IPSC, but a problem in IDPA... --Detlef
gmshtr
Sasquatch... Try this. Put some white paint on the inside of the slide lock catch (the piece that the follower ledge pushes up on) and shoot a few rounds. Take the slide lock out and check to see if any paint has rubbed off. If so, then dremel off a small portion of the slide lock and try again. Usually what causes your problem (a problem I also had) is the bullets in the longer rounds grazing the inside of the slide lock, especially the last round in the mag. I completely ground off the little slide lock tab to keep it out of the equation. Todd "Turtle" Sindelar has mastered the art of alleviating the problem while keeping the slide locking to the rear. I'll have him give you some of his secrets. Hope this helps. Phil
