Redding Competition Seating Dies

I have once again bought a Redding Competion Die in 308 (this time). I find that the bullets I am loading keep coming out at different OALs. I am loading Sierra 175 fmjbt match bullets. I had the same experience with the Redding Die in my 45 reloading and was told that the bullet shape must be at an angle that does not match the Redding Chamber. These things are expensive so it has to be something I am doing wrong. When I switch back to Dillon Dies no overlength problem. Anyone had the same type of problem?

How big a difference in OAL? I was having the same problem with the same die with Sierra HPBT. I talked to the Sierra ballistician and he told me that within each box there is a tolerence and then box to box there is a tolerence.

If you mixed bullets from two lots they could be a big enough differece to cause concern but remember that the die presses the bullets off the ogive not the tip.

FWIW, mine seems perfectly consistent for .308. But I'm measuring length to olgive.

+1 you will never get consistant OAL base to tip.
