Firetoad
I am not sure if my search fu is weak or if this specific task hasn't been touched upon before. In order to install a Nordic Components oversized bolt release button, I need to remove the bolt release button. I see that there is a pin that the bolt release assembly hinges on. I tried to lightly tap this pin, but didn't see any movement of it. I am afraid to tap harder for fear of damaging my new shotgun. Am I just being a weenie, or am I missing the obvious? Any help, advice or ridicule would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Firetoad
Nevermind, I found the super-secret hidden hair pin locking the release's hinge pin in place. For those that may search this topic in the future, there is a hidden hair pin in a milled slot just inside of the lower loading port in the bottom of the receiver below the release assembly. Just use a small pick or eyeglass size screwdriver to slide the hair pin off of the release's hinge pin. Hope this helps!
DocMcG
Yep, that was my first receiver scratch on my SLP! Damn pin!
Firetoad
No scratches here luckily. I just wound up losing a couple of springs repeatedly and shooting the hair pin out of the slot about 10 times when trying to reinstall it. Eventually, I got it all back together, but what a pain getting there at times.

I couldn't find any schematic that shows what hair pin you guys are talking about... Any pics???
mike.45
I modified a hex key and ground down on the short side to make a dedicated hair pin removal tool - works great to remove the pin and the even harder part where you try and refit it ! Outsydlooknin75
Take an Xacto blade ..... snap the blade part off of it so you are left with the blunt sided end with a hole in the middle ...... use a pair of needle nose pliers slipped one side thru the hole in the broken blade ..... It works great on my 930 to get the clip in and out.
Firetoad
As requested, some photos... This first photo was taken with the shotgun upside down, in my lap with the bolt released pointing towards me. The arrow indicates the bolt release/shell catch pivot pin location. Now, roll the loading port towards you at a slight angle, depress the lifter and you will see a milled/cut slot on the receiver wall that is now on the "ground/bottom" side of the gun as oriented in your lap. This "hairpin" or pin retainer is located within this slot. If you stare closely at the photo, you can just see the top edges of the "hairpin" or pin retainer. Here is a blown up section cropped from the above photograph. The circle of the photo indicates the location of the "hairpin" and the dashed line indicates the approximate location of the bolt release/shell catch pivot pin. You can see in the photo how the "hairpin" runs perpendicular to the pivot pin and captures it. Hope this helps!

Outsydlooknin75
walangkatapat, if you have a hobby shop around and one of the originals to match it up with I am sure that you could buy one from the hobby shop instead of ordering and having to pay shipping ..... a 10 pack of body clips is pretty cheap .... syd-jai
OK-- I got the little clip out. Now do you just use a punch and tap the pin out, from the bottom into the ejection port? I'm tapping it harder than I think I should need to, and the pin is not moving. Any ideas? Also, how many springs are behind the levers? 2? Thanks!! Firetoad
The pin moves from the ejection port towards the loading port. Use a bent paperclip to push out the pin. HTH!

I was pushing it the wrong way--no wonder it didn't move. It's a headed pin! I'm going to make my own oversize button, if it turns out good I'll post a picture of it. Kang8r
I love this forum! I'm installing a Nordic button on my SLP tomorrow. The info on this thread ( especially Firetoad's illustrations) will make the disassembly a snap. Thanks

ParaLarry
All of a sudden my bolt release/shell catch pivot pin is slipping down and making it difficult to release the bolt. I tap it back up with a punch but after 5-6 shots it has dropped down, but not out. Is this mysterious pin clip missing somehow? I had a gunsmith remove and tap the bolt release head for me so I could attach the Nordic button (more than a month ago). Is it possible he could have left the pin clip out or installed it wrong so it would fall out? My eyesight is bad and I can't make out anything in the photos above, but I can run a paper clip along the milled slot and there is a slight 'bump' right where it crosses the pivot pin, but nothing else is in the slot. Are there any drawings of what this pin clip should look like? Thanks

Anybody have extras or know of a sure substitute? Thanks Edited September 13, 2011 by ParaOrdnanceLarry
