Bill H
I am using 4.7 N320 in 9 SC at around 1100fps with 115s. I noticed with this charge a lot of crap blowing out of the gun onto my arms (unburned powder maybe). I was thinking maybe N310 might be better in this light load. Any suggestions. Would this be cleaner? Thanks, Bill
DougCarden
I have been running CLAYS at around 4.0-4.4gr with 115s in 9SC. It is a real close burn rate, so I would start at 4.0gr and try that. Good luck, DougC
Bill H
Thanks Doug, I have some clays and might give it a try.
Perf40
I tried N310 in 38 super using 4.2 to 4.4 grains. 4.4gr. ran 1160FPS. Chrony resluts were fantastic, less than 10FPS variation, but accuracy was lousy. I was getting 6" groups at 50 ft. It didn't matter what brand of bullet I used. I could not get the groups to tighten up. I plan on getting Clays and N320 and doing a comparison. John P.
BillL223
Bill, try TiteGroup. I'm using 4.6 - 4.7 for 9 x 23 steel load with a 115 Zero Softpoint. Seems very clean. I just got some 95 gr .380 bullets to try, I hear that's Doug K's secret.
Bill H
How ya doing Bill 223! I tried titegroup and the velocities were all over the place. I settled on a N310 load. It also gets dirty if I drop the load down though. Damn wimp loads.
DougCarden
small rifle primer, 88gr REm jhp, 5.1 gr Clays in 9SC or 38SC, 9-10lb spring. It works really well, almost like a .22 Try it at your own risk, of course....
.40AET
Bill H- Have you tried different primers? I had the same problem loading 40's. I tried both Small Pistol magnum and Small Rifle primers. Both completely burned the powder and kept the crap from blowing out onto my arms. Both primers also increased the velocity of the round with the same powder charge. Bill H
I think primers may be part or all of the problem. I never noticed it with small rifle primers but I recently switched to Federal small pistol. Guess I will switch back.
