Magwell For Single Stack

Ok I’m looking for thoughts and opinions on magwells for Single Stack Division. I have a Kimber Custom Target with a factory magwell but it is a little on the small side.

I’m thinking about the Dawson or the Techwell (the big one). Any thoughts, opinions or first hand experience with either or all would be great.

Any input would be great. I am sure there are threads somewhere on the forum but if you want a question answered I always figure its best to ask yourself.

The moderators tend to prefer that you read/add to existing threads rather than start new ones on the same topic.

There's about a hundred posts on SS magwells in the linked thread. Either of the two you mention will work perfectly.

I have the Dawson and really like it. You do need the special dawson pads if you get the no gap insert, which i have and like. Just make sure you get plenty of practice fully seating the mags.

On my next SS gun I may try the techwell as ive heard nothing but good things about it as well. the only downside I can see is you have to use the techwell grips with their magwell. I have some different ones that i like that wouldnt work with it unless i milled slots on the inside. see if anyone in your area has either so you can look at it.

I have a Dawson on my Glock and I too love it. I was thinking about the model with the gap so I don't have to buy new mags or get new basepads. I know some guys that use the Techwell and have also heard great things. I'm leaning towards the Dawson but I need some more imput. I appriciate your input it was helpful and I didn't have to spend hours searching other threads.

First things first: They're both great. I have both, I like both, and would recommend both. If you have grips you're in love with, you may prefer the Dawson. I tried the techwell grips and loved them. All my 1911s have them now, including the one with the ICE magwell.

Second - it doesn't take hours. Here's what a quick search found:

And a few dozen more. You'll find even more if you search for ICE Magwell or Techwell, or some other combination.

Yea I don't have grips I'm in love with but I'm thinking about a set of VZ grips. Thanks for you input.

I know it doesnt take hours I was just playing (LOL)...thanks thought I will check them out.

You might want to check out someone's Techwell G10 grips. They may be made by VZ, I'm not sure. They're very similar.

What's the latest word on the gap vs. no-gap ICE magwell? Last time I did a search I saw everyone saying to get the gap version, but recently I see a bunch of people recommending the no-gap version with the dawson basepads. I thought even with the dawson base pads if it jammed, you had to push it out through the top of the frame? Is that not true?

with the no gap insert, there is still plenty of room to grab the mag and pull it out if necessary. i like the no-gap for the added slope on the front of the magell incase my arm is slightly mis-aligned on a reload ( i guess practice would eliminate misses tho <_< haha)
