Aircooled6racer
Hello: Great lathe if you are turning stuff for a diesel locomotive I think it may be a little large for the average garage shop Something with a 10-14" swing should do and 42" between centers would be better. Also some of the newer lathes have a larger hole through the headstock. Thanks, Eric

I have been looking at them since my Monarch needs rebuilding and is 900 miles away Thanks, Eric

cas
I've seen bigger. Okay, I don't know that they'd technically be called lathes. We used them to make flag poles.

ChopperDoc
I have a friend who has one like that. A close look at the data plates showed 1940's dept. of the Navy identifications. My friend is convinced it was on a battleship or carrier. He said that they had to be able to manufacture anything when they were out at sea. Made sence to me. joecichlid
The one lathe pictured on the right: http://stlouis.craigslist.org/tls/2033346385.html It isn't too big...if you are making canon barrels. lol I think it is a little big. Cannot guess how to move it into a shop. You don't move something this big into your shop, you BUILD your shop around it. Joe W.
