Hey QuicksDraw!
My wife just found out I need a second surgery for my throat. The right sinus airway is completely blocked and I am working on 50% airflow. She is pissed because she found out that instead of scheduling it right away as the doctor suggested I made him push it back untill after the SMM3G AND the shotgun class in Alabama. Boy am I in trouble. I do NOT want to miss the match or the class and am prepared to suck it up. What would you do?
Garfield
There's no easy answer. IMHO the question at hand is: is it dangerous to postpone ? This I cannot judge. If it is not dangerous, I can imagine waiting until after the matches/classes. Is there no way to have the surgery done before AND recover enough to attend the matches/classes ? And remember: your wife probably is angry because she cares and worries, at least, if your marriage is ok
SiG Lady
Like, when ARE the matches...? two weeks away? two months? two years...? Is the condition considered immeditely life-threatening in your work or lifestyle...?
Hey QuicksDraw!
There is no real danger, it's just hard to breathe and swollow. There would not be enough time to heal. The marrige is great but if it went her way I'd be under the knife this very minute. It would be my first 3gun match and as a 3gun rookie I'd be stupid to pass up a class with 3 great shotgunners in one place. Unless of course I'm laying on my back at the range gasping for air LOL
Sam
Dude, the surgery will be there. I'd say you've got your prioritites in order. Ask your wife to stick a Kleenex up one nostril for a day so she can see how it feels to go with 50% air flow. It should allay her fears and give you a chance to snap a really great picture when she least expects it. Later you two can laugh about it. After 20+ years my wife as accepted the fact that she married a maniac. The worst time was when she walked up just as I was asending the 150 ft crane to do my first ever bungee jump at the state fair about 10 years ago. I could hear her cussing me all the way doooowwwwwwnnnnnn.
Jeffro
Hey QuicksDraw, The solution is painfully obvious................ you have to DIVORCE HER ! Anybody who has their priorities that screwed up, is just unnecessary baggage!! What can she be thinking, anyway? What is more precious...... life or shooting? WE ALL know that answer............ SHOOTING, of course!! She has GOT TO GO.......... unless you can get her some kind of help from a psychiatrist to get her priorities straight!!! Stay well, and be healthy and happy. SiG Lady
Jeffro's been working too hard lately. Don't take him seriously. He's been swinging by his feet from The Gateway Arch too often on his lunch hours!!
Mistral404
What is the 02 in the blood. If you oxygen is ok then shoot the match. otherwise go for the surgery. starving you body and brain of oxygen is dumb. I had a deviated septum for years--oh wait, maybe that is why I can not add numbers anymore, hmmm oh wait what were we talking about. hmmm oh wait....... I guess maybe I was a little harsh in my analysis of the situation................ If she is a GOOD COOK, then just ignore her requests but let her stay!!!! John Dunn
Matches are only every so often, you get to breathe every day. If it isn't urgent, do it after the matches.
Hey QuicksDraw!
bulm5 - How am I supposed to know my oxygen level? My brain has been oxygen starved for years acording to my wife and my mother. Jeffro- She is a great cook so I have to keep her.
Jeffro
QuicksDraw, All jokes aside, just don't jeapordize your long-term health for "immediate gratification". Follow your instincts, but I have to resort to the "old wisdom", "As long as you are healthy............" Best of luck, and let us know what you decide. warpspeed
I do NOT want to miss the match or the class and am prepared to suck it up. What would you do? Well, from my own personal standpoint, I'd shoot the match. My wife, as pissed as she would be, would eventually get over it. You simply have to aks yourself is the grief you will receive in the mean time worth it?
Vince Pinto
Whether you shoot first then get the surgery or have the surgery right away is your call. However you have a loving wife, so let her know she's appreciated. Flowers with an appropriate note followed by a romantic dinner won't lessen her concern, but it might make her remember why she made the silly mistake of marrying you. This has worked for me for the 1.3 million silly mistakes I've made in my married life to a wonderful, supportive woman.
Tyro Shooter
well if your doctor feels that the wait is not too detrimental to your health , participating in a sporting event and a learning experience will go a long ways to your overall recovery after surgery, Then you need to put lead down range. as well as the fact you can practice all those thing you'll find out you need to work on while stuck in the house recovering. now go practice ( and buy flowers for your wife on the way home from the range.) Gun Geek
Hey - Is there more to this story? Is she really upset because there are other consequences to wiating? Such as: A planned vacation has to be cancelled or moved You sorely need to clean out the garage, refinish the basement, etc... You get the point. If this is the case, you will NEVER hear the end of it. Better ask and find out.

Easy, look at your fingernails and if they are blue you are probabaly O2 deprive Seriously, Go to yuor MD and ask them to get your O2 sats, won't take more than 5 mins. They have a little device that they attached to your finger and will instantly get your O 2 sats. It may be OK at rest but with activity it may be different. Hey but it is your call. Hey QuicksDraw!
Bulm5- I figure If I can focus on the front sights my oxygen is good to go! I've gone this long another forty days won't kill me. I am not going to "Nancy Boy" and miss these oportunities. They say at least four weeks recovery time. I could spend it reviewing what I learned in class and going over "match memories' or be in pain and regret not going. Nope, not going to happen. Weezing, snot blowing, throat clearing, lugie hawkin, short of breath, SO WHAT! I'll be there! Air, it's over rated anyway.

Hey QuicksDraw!
Surgery is scheduled for March 30th, two days after class. My wife is OK now that a date is set. Vince - I let my wife know she is appreciated EVERY day. She is the center of my world.
