digerup
Im in the market for a spotting scope for under $400 and was hoping for a little input. I was looking at the Leuopold Wind River but then found a bad review on it. Has anyone compared the Wind River to another scope.
Graham Smith
I didn't have the bucks to spend earlier this year when I was researching this, but one model that came up a few times was the Bushnell Spacemaster 20-45. In particular, reviewers liked the long eye relief - something missing on some others. Overall, the manufacturer I saw mentioned the most was Kowa Konus, but prices were often over $500. Sorry, I wasn't paying any attention to what I was typing... Let me try this again... Overall, the manufacture I saw mentioned most in the low cost range was Konus. But prices for the most highly recommended scopes were often over $500 Edited September 23, 2010 by Graham Smith
Fullauto_Shooter
I'm really happy with my Konus (Konuspot 80). Paid right around $200 shipped and have no complaints. I can't tell any difference between my scope and the Leupold model going for twice as much. There is a significant difference between the Konus and the Swarvoski; but for an extra $1200, there should be.
TCKev
The Leupold Sequoia is a decent SS for under $300.00 I bought one at Academy. Excellent at the range for seeing the holes in paper. I bought a more expensive Nikon to hunt out west with.

gobabygo
I have the Konus Konuspot-80 (20-60x80mm) also and it is excellent. I got mine a few years ago and at that time it was the best thing until you get to the Kowa for ~$800 if you want something appreciably better. I haven't been spotting scope shopping since then but I don't know if there's anything better for under $400.
mscott
The Konus scopes are pretty decent, but I really like the Bushnell with a mil dot reticle. Glass is nice and clear and the reticle comes in handy for spotting long range rifle stuff. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=753047
Dave.O
I have both the Konus konuspot 80 and the Leupold Sequoia green ring.. In my opinion, the Konus is the better scope... I have also looked through the Bushnell with the mildot reticle, the glass is very clear as well.. Still for 225.00, the Konus is the better deal.. digerup
Konus is new to me, I will check them out. Seems the way to go for a inexpensive scope.

kamikaze1a
I'm very happy with my Burris High Country 20-60X. Under $200. Very clear and bright at all powers but zoom and refocus required... Edited September 29, 2010 by kamikaze1a
Rob Boudrie
How is the eye relief on the Vortex?
Graham Smith
One niche market spotting scope I have seen reviewed several times is the Bushnell Excursion FLP 15-45x60 This is both a spotting scope and a high power ranging device. Reviews have been extremely good even though the max magnification is only 45x.
