nbraybrook
Henning or anyone, Would it be possible to make a lighter guide rod out of aluminium or plastic? The new elite match with light rail weighs aprox 44.1oz with empty mag. To compete in IDPA ESP class I have to hit 43oz weight with empty mag. I pulled out the guide rod it threw it on the scale im geting aprox 1oz for the stock steel guide rod. Also changing the grips I hope will help. If anyone has hennings aluminium grips for the match can you please weigh them and let me know how much they weigh in at and if there is room to "hollow" them out on the back side. MichiganShootist
I have aluminum FL guide rods in three 1911s from Briley They work just fine. I helped reduce my ESP and CDP guns by replacing the mainspring housings with poly units made for Kimber 1911s That would net you over 2 oz in savings. al503
You might consider drilling out your existing guiderod, which would probably be close to the same as an aluminum or plastic. STI also makes a poly 1911 mainspring housing.
nbraybrook
The awkward shape of the tanfoglio guide rod would make it pretty difficult to drill out. For me at least. If henning already has machines setup to cut out steel guide rods, I wonder if I could get one out of a light weight aluminium.
