One of the problems with any technical topic is that everyone assumes that others know certain things. And most of the time they do and most of the time that's necessary or every message would end up with a whole lot of extraneous stuff that everyone knows. For example, it took me a while to figure out what a S_I pistol was. I knew about STI but it wasn't until I heard of SVI that I caught on, these were both types of 2011 pistols.
