Has anyone installed a techwell xt on STI Spartan?

Hey guys!

Just ordered a techwell and received it today. Im posting because the well does not fit on the gun. It seems like the MSH is too long or something. Im really not sure. The notches dont fit in the grips and i kind of stuck it on without it properly fit and there is also a gap towards the front. I took some pics and i will get them uploaded in a bit, wondering if anyone had insight until i can get them uploaded.

Do you have any photos of yours fitted? I uploaded photos but something is wrong with photobucket right now. I watched the video, I just want to make sure that is exactly it and not the MSH before i start filing. I am almost sure you are exactly right with the problem, i just wanted to get some more advice.

I filed both of the edges equally. I can install each side separately but not together.

It is not that hard of a process once you watch the video, but i dont understand why it is not fitting. Does anyone else have any advice? The well kind of looks crooked on the other side once one grips is installed. I really hope i can figure this out. I have always used Dawson magwell's in the past. The techwell looks like a great product. I just dont know what else to try

yes the grips fit the magwell with ease before i filed and after. I think i have got it now. There is a very small bit of variance between the grips, but im a little frustrated from all the trial and error that i dont want to mess with it anymore tonight. Ill throw up some pictures in a few minutes.

Here's lots of pictures so people that are interested can see what it looks like installed. Like i mentioned, i do not think they are 100% yet, probably a little bit more filing. As far as my gun goes, it was definitely not as quick as the video makes it seem on youtube. It takes some time like many people mentioned to me. To people who are considering purchasing these later on, Take your time and be careful when filing, i knicked mine up a bit from slipping. It does not concern me that much because this is going to be strictly for uspsa and will get scratched in time anyway.

It looks like your mainspring housing is hanging below the frame a bit in the pictures. If this is the case it is the cause for your fitment issues. With the grips off does the magwell sit flat against the frame?? If not, that will cause you problems fitting it all up.

It looked that way to me as well. Im not sure what you mean flat against the frame. It fit on and looked straight and would get crooked when i applied one grip before the other. The way i got it to fit was by holding the magwell in place and sliding both bottoms and then clicking in the top portion of both grips. It seems to be there now, but still doesnt look 100% right like i mentioned. Im going to call Bob tomorrow and speak with him and probably email him the photos as well. He is a SUPER nice guy who answered all my questions and was very patient. I understand that he is just getting started out and might not be that busy all the time, but imo he is the apitimy of how customer service should be.

I think your going to find that you will have to swap out the housing or remove it and fit it better to the frame. After this I'm sure the well will sit flush on the frame. The problem you may have then now that you have already done some filing you may end up with a losse fit. There are ways to correct that also if it happens.

On all the Spartans I've fit them to, you have to sand (I use a mill) the MSH down and just a bit of the rear of the bottom of the frame and you are good to go and it will fit perfectly, no ugly gap.

How far do i need to go down? To the length of the grips or farther? Do you know of any MSH that i could swap out that would fit perfectly? I was thinking of getting a stainless MSH anyway but still undecided.

I take the panels and snap them on and scribe a line and go to the outside of the line, then go slow until it fits snug. Nothing fits as perfectly as machining it to fit, so I don't really pay that much attention to the after market parts fit since I want material to be able to trim back.
