barrysuperhawk
Ok, I have a .308 AP4, with a flattop, and a fixed front sight. I think I want a low power [1-4x] variable scope in a one piece mount. What I am worried about is how badly is the Front sight going to obstruct my FOV, and will going with an illuminated reticle allow me to "work around" the front sight? mpeltier
At 1x you will see the sight post and it can obscure your view of targets on a stage that has near and far targets that may require holdover at the distant ones. set to 4x you will most likely be looking beyond the close focal range of the scope and not see any of the front sight post in the view thru it. Your scope and mount selection may have some influence on how much of this applies in your case. I did not like seeing the sight, I found it distracting, when I had this situation years ago and at the time just cut the sight to make it a gas block. Now I just change the front sight to a low profile gas block, cheap and easy. Plus the gun can be easily put back to original for resale.
