I'm afraid to ask what exactly happened? We had our computer act up last night and now we cannot get online (from home). Please tell me this is not what happened to you? We had a hard drive crash last year from a stupid virus...don't need it again.

I've been pretty lucky in that regard, but a few friends haven't. In working to get theirs fixed, I went to a website called Bleeping computer. I don't recommend the site unless you are tech savvy, but it fixed these machines that were really FUBAR. Good luck on yours, and may the people who come with these viruses rot in hell.

Computer was running fine then we had some storms that where going to be coming through so I turned off the computer and the next day I turned it back on and I could not open the email program it would freez, could not add or delete any programs, said I had no internet connection but I could get online. So much for anti virus software what a PITA never even popped up saying anything. Makes me kind of think that the anti virus software people are the ones thinking up this crap! It has been 4 days and they are still trying to get rid of the virus!

there are more and more of that crap going on on FB and its pissing me off as well. Ive gotten a couple od small things, but nothing serious yet. i just ignore or delete anything not from someone i KNOW and know well. messages from random people, unles the titel is something ill recognize ( like a friend request from BE'rs or soemthing) gets the ignore/delete button.

You didn't say what might have caused it but as a rule, I don't play the games or let any of the apps "allow access". If the app won't work without me allowing access, well then I didn't need that app anyway.

Good luck!

I really don't know I don't play any of the games or any of that. I have already deactivated my FB account! I only visit web sites that I know mainly gun related.

I am a store manager for Office Depot and I see this stuff everyday. Most people get viruses from 3 places. Internet pop ups, torrent sites, and programs like limewire, frostwire, etc. NEVER EVER click on a pop up, especially if it is talking about virus removal. When in doubt, turn the PC off through the start menu. Those pop ups and ads install the moment you click on any part of them. And the way they get past your AV is that they make it so you are agreeing to them being there when you click on them. Because you "installed" it, it tells the AV program it is OK for it to be there. Once that happens you are done. More viruses and malware are downloaded until your system is unusable. They will even change the internet settings on your machine that make it a slave to their proxy server. Nasty!

Kids are really bad at getting PC's infected, porn surfers too. For the kids have a separate user account and even restrict the sites they can visit.

Use a good AV for prevention, but if you know you have one then your AV is useless. There is a free program called Malwarebytes that rocks for removal. Download it and use it. If your PC is really bad you may need to reload windows or have an expert fix your windows. These things can really jack with your PC, don't take them lightly.

+1 on MB, it's a great program for helping clean things up.

Wow! I thought if I closed it (without opening) I had nothing to worry about. That explains quite a few things. Thanks.

if you can get into safe mode with networking, download and run this program following the instructions.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

after you are done with that, reboot, then boot back into safe mode with networking and download, install, update and run this

Most of the time the entire window is a link (kind of link an image link on a webpage), even the X that you would traditionally click to close the program.

Shortly after joining FB I started getting tons of virus-laden spam-emails. My ISP (earthlink) managed to nab them and prevent any infection but the very fact that they started right after getting on FB was suspicious. I quit FB and will not be going back.

I've been on FB & Myspace for years and have never gotten anything from them, same for torrent sites, file sharing, etc etc. You just have to be wary of what you click on, regardless of how temping it is to smash the monkey going back and forth across the screen to win a free ipod touch. :roflol:
