jester116th
Hi, I got this RL 1050 used but I've had nothing but trouble with it and I want to get RID of it. The primer system sucks, half the time the cases have no primer in them and the machine keeps jamming all the time. The problem seems to be in the primer system as sometimes it won't feed a primer or it will and cause a jam that I then have to teardown the toolhead to clear it. I can load faster with my single stage. in 8 hours i was only able to load about 200 rounds of 9mm. I have looked at the troubleshooting guide and been all thru this website and am at the end of my rope. I have read the manuel and looked at lots of pictures, Maybe i'm stupid but i can't get this thing to work. When I had it running it's GREAT but then it messes up and i have to stop to clear the jam every few rounds. I'm in Alliance, NE if I can't sell this thing you might be lucky and find it in the trashcan outside...... P.S. thx in advance for any opinons, help, comments, ect, ect. Fireant
How much do you want for it? Have you tried calling Dillon while at the machine? They really helped me get rid of the same feeling I had about mine. Each one has its own quirks and you kind of have to work through it to find them out. Merlin Orr
Where do you live? Probably someone here who lives near you who could be talked into coming by your place and giving you an inservice on the machine.

Probably someone here who lives near you who could be talked into coming by your place and giving you an inservice on the machine. I live in Alliance, NE. I know that Dillon make quality machines, This one was set up for .45ACP came with a xtra toolhead and powder measure in .38ACP, I changed the primer parts and swage rod from large to small and put my 9mm dies in and finally finished 300 rounds

yoshidaex
You might want to send it to Dillon to get a tune up if you're at your wits end. I've got a RL1050 also and it took a bit of work And parts ordering before it was 100%.

pjb45
I have an RL1050 and have made almost ever mistake you can make with one. So I have learned a lot and I am still learning. Ping me if you want. You can send it to Dillon to have them Rehab it. It does cost as the RL1050 is not covered under the lifetime warranty. Call Dillon and talk to them. The are great folks. I just had mine set up for 9mm. First, I do not use the lower swage bar on my 9mm. You have to adjust the rod on the tool head which adjusts the pressure leverage bar on the primer system so it only seats the primer to the proper depth. The primer system can be interesting. Have you replaced any of the parts that can be worn out? Make sure there is no grease on the primer bar, etc. Make sure you are using the small primer tube, etc. I have taken the primer tube system off so many times I feel like I can do it in my sleep. Sometimes depending on the brand of primers, I get one sideways in the hole on the primer bar. Do not loose faith in the 1050, it is a great machine but it can cause you nightmares until it gets running right. Do you have a digital camera that takes video. If so, do pictures and vids and post them on YouTube where we can look at them. You can get a ton of free advice from the members here. Whatever you do, do not sell it! Especially to the guys who already want it. They have too many and have gone over their allotment of 1050s. The 1050 police are cracking down on illegal sales and acquisitions of certain BE members. benos
I trick I learned from Arnt Mhyre (sorry if I got your last name wrong Arnt) long ago, that made my 1050's priming system 100% reliable... Add or remove the .001" shims from under part# 13108 until - with the machine at rest, drop a single primer down the primer mag tube and it should go into its hole in the primer slide - 10 times in a row. be
noylj
1) the plastic tip of the primer tube is bent/flared/damaged and needs to be replaced. Dillon should supply a box of a hundred of the damn things. 2) the slide roll pin sleeve (rubber tube) on the end of the primer slide/shuttle is cut or missing 3) the slide actuating lever is bent or out of alignment 4) there is a burr on the primer slide/shuttle or the primer punch bushing or the sliding surface of the base 5) dirt/grain of powder I hear about these shims, but I have no idea where they would go I only wish I knew someone who disliked their 1050 so I could take it out of their life and they could be happy. If I thought bad-mouthing them would make the used price drop, I would start a campaign. Let's see, you can buy a new one for $1550 or so and use it for sometime, get tired of it and sell it on eBay for $1450. That depreciation will kill you. gunracer38
I bought my 1050 in 1995 or some years around there. I heard they would re build it for $150.00. Well I sent it to them. The shipping was quite expensive. It weighs around 70 lbs. Let me say Dillon did the best re build on this 1050 It was the best $150.00 I paid for this job. It works just like new. New brass case feeder, new powder system and many new parts. When I bought the 1050 I never looked back and would not be without it. I have a 650 which works quite well also but the 1050 far surpasses it .I will by buying another 1050 this year.I am sorry if I I think Dillon reloaders is the best but I have owned all the other different colors, green, red etc. They dont come close. Loves2Shoot
Make sure the part that screws down over the primer seating rod hasn't backed out. This will cause the the primer bar to bind and not go all the way out to pick up the primer.
Shooting Coach
I bought my RL1050 from a fellow who could not make it work. A few bent parts, a shim, total takedown and piece-by-piece reassembly, and it has worked very well. If a primer gets cocked in the slide, you can push it out with a thin punch from underneath. Try it, and you will see. I also put washers on the primer station retaining tab and on the nylon inserts on the lock ring. Making the case feeder stationary is cardinal to flawless functioning. My 1050 is NOT for sale, but I wouldn't mind having a back up press. I hope THAT does not "violate rules". LOL
