Last Q on the slots subject - Non-used slots revert back to....IPSC or the hosting country for redistribution? And may a region give slots to another?

From the first page of this topic: "The other good news is that if, say, IPSC Guacamole has earned 8 slots, but they only need 4, the slots which are not required are then returned to IPSC for re-distribution to those on the waiting list (and no, Regions cannot give them away or sell them - they "use them or lose them" back to IPSC).".

How about safety? I noticed the international IROA's were accompanied by police while travelling to the range during the PanAmerican 2003.

Nobody can guarantee your safety, anywhere in the world. If you are concerned, I suggest you do not attend the match.

It is clear nowadays safety can not be guaranteed nowhere by nobody.

But why was police services offered at the IROA's for traveling to range during PanAmerican 2003?

Was it necessary under the conditions that time or just for decorations?

I hope and guess it was just for decorations.

It is not strange that due to this decorations one could get a wrong impression about the safety though.

Greetings

Adrie

I wasn't there, so I don't know. Why don't you ask someone who was there, such as Dick Seger, from whom you "borrowed" the images above?

I'm only guessing, but the BRVs and M16s are probably all part of their regular "day" uniform (e.g. no balaclavas, goggles, respirators etc.), and that they didn't wear them due to an imminent threat. I also suspect they were not "escorting" the IROA ROs, but were merely going to the range with them, because the IROA guys are the first to arrive and the last to leave.

We had a similar military or police presence at WSXII in Cebu and also at WSXIII in South Africa, and they were all great guys who were there primarily to assist match organisers in respect of keeping order (e.g. stopping people who had no right to be there from entering and wandering around where live-firing was taking place).

However you're the first person I know to make such a big deal about it. Why?

I really like to go, but I heard some strange things about that country. Further I don't want to go alone and I think only a few of my countrymen will go there. So I am thinking what I will do this year, stay in Europe and shoot at several events in Europe or go to just the one event in Ecuador.

In South Africa I allready was DQ after 29 rounds. Only me second DQ ever. Made a nice film though. Over there I did not feel good either, same as Cebu, On both occassions I felt very happy to be home as I returned to Holland.

If you want to know who I am, ask Louis Tong, he knows.

Hmmm. Sounds like going to Ecuador is safer than being your RO

Anyway, as I said earlier, if you're concerned about your safety, don't go. The people who'll be on the waiting list in January certainly won't mind ....

Hi guys,

Here's a photo showing the current status of the WSXIV range in Guayaquil, Ecuador, courtesy of Match Director Victor Ferrero:

Please note that as I've never been to this range, I can't answer any questions about it (yet).

I count 28 ranges/bays, so there has to be more. Looks compact, but there'll be bullets zinging overhead. I hope those berms are tall enough.

By the way, any idea when the match web page will be in English?

And when you get exact map coordinates on the range, can you tell us? Hard to plan hotels otherwise. (And my spanish sucks.)

Uncle Vinnie, always on the leading edge.

Patrick,

Que? No habla Español?

Unfortunately both the English and Spanish versions of the WSXIV website were recently attacked by Internet Idiots, and they've just been restored, but I expect they'll be in full swing by mid-December at the latest.

I have much more information about WSXIV, but I won't publish it here as a courtesy to Victor Ferrero, until after he makes his presentation to the General Assembly in Bali on 27 November, but I can at least tell you there are another 8 shooting bays in an adjoining area (barely) visible "above" the main range area.

And I'm sure the berms will be OK, because they rise 1 foot over the head of our Chief Course Designer Danny DeVito

Patrick,

I've been on this range working the PanAmerican Championships 2003. At that time we used the 28 bays you can see on the photograph. Another part of the range was being worked upon to become another set of 8-10 bays.

Height of the berms was no problem, they were higher than at WS XIII in Pietersburg. They also absorbed the bullets better so there were no frequently wild flying bullets. In Course Design and Construction every possible measure was taken to avoid bullets leaving the bay. Low targets had extra sand bags positioned behind them to act as extra bullet stop.

It was a real nice match to shoot and work and I'll expect WS XIV to top this!

For hotels - the nearest city is Guayaquil with more than enough hotel capacity. In 2003 a number of selected hotels were frequented by the shuttle bus bringing competitors to the range and back to the hotel again. I expect this to be no different for WS XIV. Just be a little patient and wait for the official info before you make any arrangements.

In a week time we will receive more info from Victor Ferrero. I'm sure this will be passed on to the members through the Regional Directorates. Besides that the most important items will also be posted here I assume.

Vince,

1. will there be special dispensation from the rules for using .30Spl ammunition (page 2)? I assume it's minor?

2. the only .40S&W ammo sold there is 230gr (page 2). I am not sure this will run in *any* competitor's gun...

Detlef,

Despite the lack of emoticons, I assume that you're joking?

Clearly the two items you cite are typographical errors, and I think it's pretty safe to assume that "30 Special" is actually "38 Special". Moreover, according to Armscor's website, their 40SW is 180 grains, which I believe is typical for that calibre, so I presume the "230 grains" quoted is a duplication of the weight of 45ACP bullets.

Will it be possible for a competitor to shoot in the prématch, because if go I also want to film at the main match.

The Pre-Match is primarily for Match Officials, Regional Directors, Sponsors and other VIPs, however there are usually a few slots available to accommodate special requests. If you want to shoot the Pre-Match, contact your Regional Director and ask him to submit a request to the Match Director.

Hi folks,

Please see this thread for related (and updated) information about passing through the USA on the way to WSXIV.

USPSA members actually residing in the USA should visit the member's area of the USPSA website for an announcement from USPSA President Mike Voigt in respect of applications for slots from the USPSA quota (ask him, not me!).
