What tool is used to increase the inside diameter of a barrel?

I was talking with a friend recently and he was telling me that he has a tight-chambered barrel that he would like to open up a bit. I think that the depth of the chamber was fine so his only issue had to do with the inside diameter of the barrel. He's going to be taking it to a gunsmith but I am still curious; what type of tool(s) is(are) used to accomplish this?

A good chamber reamer (Clymer) will put a barrel back to SAMMI specs, and clean up any rough surfaces, or unnecessary plating (chrome, TiN, or baked-on finishes) that happens to be in the chamber. This has been the fix for many M&P's extraction woes.

It's interesting that you would mention this because that's exactly the problem he is having with his pistol which is an M&P.

Thank you both for the quick reply!
