  1. That defeats the purpose. Knowing how fast you can make your hits is an important skill, probably one of the most important in the real world. Remember that little lawyer that rides down range on every bullet, and it is after all supposed to be practical shooting. If that were a core tenet of IDPA then all stages would be Limited Vickers.
  2. I meant that in the "I couldn't possibly be more suprised about the 9th Circuit decision than finding the Statue of Liberty decaying in the ocean" sense.
  3. For the first time ever, a federal court has found that the 2nd amendment is indeed incorporated into the Constitution through the 14th amendment. Just as a little background for those of you who are not legal scholars, originally the Bill of Rights were a set of limited rights that only applied to the federal government (for example many states had official state religions). It wasn’t until after the Civil War and the passage of the 14th Amendment that some of the Bill of Rights were eventually “incorporated” into the 14th amendment and applied to states as well as the federal government. http://www.rightpundits.com/?p=3778 PDF of the actual opinon.
  4. If the carafe is solid how do you get the coffee in?? BTW, I'm one of those heathens that thinks ALL coffee tastes like burnt bark and pond water.
  5. So if that non SO peanut gallery member finds a better hit on a scoring target do you reject it as well?
  6. Considering the "tremendous" skills those CC forum members undoubtedly possess I can see why you would value their opinion on what to choose for a carry gun or how it should be equipped. I don't mean to say that any of those items you list are necessary or desirable but if I'm ever in a gunfight I would prefer equipment that enhances not hinders my potential of being the one to go home that day. I bet you could ride to work on a tricycle just to prove it can be done. I bet I could come up with some reasons that would sound valid why you should do so. I also bet you won't take me up on my wager! The above is intended mostly in humor. Please be gentle. Riding home now.
  7. Some thoughts from the Friday squad. 1. Stages were lots of fun even with out the ball. The cave and the tetherball stage in particular were interesting. 2. West Texas mud. An unususal concoction that is extremely fine and gets into everything when dry also becomes like clumping cat litter and 3 times as heavy in the presence of water. 3. Don't ever say, hint, or think "Gee, the weather isn't that bad. I think the high for the day was when we left the hotel in the morning. 4. In the nicest possible way, I hope the weather is miserable for the next two days. It is only fair!
  8. I freaking loved it but did notice several people leave before the movie finished. Most were parents with CHILDREN!! I'm talking 12-13 and younger. WTF do these people think Rated R means?
  9. Too bad that under that same stress you have to hit another wee little lever called a trigger. If I can manipulate the trigger with control every single shot, I can damn sure manupulate the slide stop once and a while.
  10. So Duane what happened?? Get your knee fixed? Have you seen Adonis in the mirror recently?
  11. I wonder what percentage of the ShootingUSA audience are "us"? Fastmover?
  12. I am coaching/mentoring a young female shooter and this is what caused this line of questioning for me. I did not intend anyone to think I was critical of female shooters of any and all skill levels. I mean no disrespect. Perhaps I should have worded my questions better but I was trying to narrow the discussion. I would expect from many of the recent responses that I am getting skewered in the ladies forum. This is obviously not what I intended also. I am extremely sorry that many consider this a topic not worth responding to. Coming from a position of ignorance, I am a man after all, I was under the misimpression that practical shooting was one of the areas that gender was not a performance issue. I am still not convinced that the sex of a shooter is a major determinate of their potential ability.
  13. Congratulations on your finish in the World Shoot. I couldn't even hold your water while you shot. I had sincerely hoped that this topic wouldn't get personal because of the potential for misinterpretation or hurt feelings. I hope you belive that I intend no slight whatsoever. To answer your question, it seems the consensus is that classifers do not represent actual match stages very well. By the way, at 70%, you shot a very solid mid B class at the World Shoot. I was not being sarcastic at all. I was suprised there were not any GM ladies. Looking at the link posted earlier I understand why a little better. Of the 4918 Open class USPSA shooters only 2.58% of them are GM's on paper. If the World Shoot this year was a classifier, in Open division only one shooter shot a Grand Master score. Thirteen shot Master class scores. Thirty one shot A class. One hundred twenty one were B class. One hundred forty one shot C class. Finally thirty shot what would have been a D class score. Interesting.
  14. Is there anyway to find out how what percentage of the current membership are GM, M, A, B, C, or D for both men and women? Maybe that would explain something. Perhaps there are not enough women shooters, statistically, to have a lady GM? What is the percentage of women to men in USPSA? I have a hard time believing it is all physiological. I have met some short, skinny Filipino GM's and some pro football player looking D class men too. It can't just be about size or strength. I'm not sure it is just dedication either. The ladies super squad don't try to improve as much as the men's SS does? I'm not going to stand near anyone that makes that claim!! I wonder what the deal is?
  15. I could have just as easily titled this post "Why are there no women GM's?" except I didn't know that until this thread. That is exactly the kind of core to this question I was trying to get at. There has been some thread drift that can be summerized as, male Y down in the pack got beat by female X down in the pack. So what. Some M class or below man got beat by some M class or below woman. Hardly noteworthy. There are ZERO lady GM's!!! Seriously, I had no idea. Top lady Open shooter in the WORLD came in at 70.58% It would be different if there were a situation like in revolver where there is a Jerry Miculek type that dominates by tens of percentage points consistently. There were nine other shooters that came within less than 10% of Grauffel. None of them stand up to pee. (little joke please don't flame me too badly!) I'm going to split off this topic because I just didn't frame my question very well. Did you know there has never been a Lady GM? edited to add link to new topic
  16. I was looking at the World Shoot scores and something I have noticed previously struck me again. Shooting has little to do with size or strength and is more about coordination, reflexes and concentration so why do the women shooters finish so far back? Age doesn't seem to be a large factor either. No names since I don't intend this to be personal. I also don't know any of these people and mean no slight. Open: High Lady came in 70.58%. High junior came in 94.86% and High Senior came in 78.71%. Even High Super Senior was close at 69.30%. Standard: High Lady came in 67.12%. High junior came in 81.28% and High Senior came in 89.72%. High Super Senior was at 69.81%. Production: High Lady came in 62.27%. High junior came in 87.41% and High Senior came in 75.58%. High Super Senior was behind at 52.54%.
  17. Every single time I hear that argument I INSIST that they swap equipment with me. Then I just beat them again using their own gun. I wish everyone would do the same.
  18. I thought the same thing. "Hey is that a TIKI??" So someone has to know what the deal is. Who at SV has the Hollywood hookup? Is one of the prop guys a competition shooter? Someone spill the beans.
  19. I mean the BS comment to the excuses. I agree that we ALL have demands on our time, money and attention. I thought I made the point that just like the average LEO the average non-LEO also doesn't get free ammo, works many hours and doesn't live just for shooting. So when I read "we can't shoot because they won't give me ammo and I worked 50 hours this week plus my wife/GF is bitching about the honey-do list", I say ME TOO! That excuse implies that we would see that LEO at the range if all of those conditions were resolved. I say BS. I and all of you find some way to do what we really want to do. I agree with you fully when you wrote that "most LEOs do not value shooting highly. I think that is a shame. I did think you had me on the LEO salary until I did just what you said and looked at my local city police recruiting website. Below is a cut and paste from that site. It reflects the national average numbers I posted before. BTW, I don't get free gas if I drive my work vehicle either.
  20. I have heard this explanation before and I call BS! I don't get free ammo to practice or compete. I don't make all that much money. I work more than 40 hours a week I have much more going on in my life than just shooting. I would expect that most everyone on this forum would agree with many of the sentiments expressed above. I like all of you still find the money and time even with everything else going on in my life to shoot USPSA and IDPA both. I even dip my toe into 3-gun waters occasionally. All at my own expense and out of my valuable time. So once again I call BS! FYI: I did a quick search on Google and came up with this link. http://www.simplyhired.com/a/salary/search/q-police
  21. I would think there would be enough interest to get it self published and sell enough copies to people such as on this forum that you would at least make a little money. If nothing else, there are many who are relatively new to the sport that would be interested in some of the "Hell, I was there!" stories. I know I am.
  22. Many of the events are not what I would define as a sport. If it can not be scored objectively or requires a "professional judge" then it should not be in the Olympics. How fast, how high, how heavy, how many, these are facts. Subjective opinions such as difficulty level are what give the Olympic scoring a bad reputation. Arguments over fairness are like arguments over beauty, purely subjective. Neither of these should be an Olympic event either. Imagine if at your next shooting match you lost out to someone who shot less points than you and took longer to do it but because they attempted a more difficult or showy manuever they won. Now imagine that you had practiced for four years between matches for that to happen!! Please feel free to rebutt.
