Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Ok, well a full auto 1911 during a match is not fun when you are trying to become classified.
  2. Thanks for the reply. I will mention that to the smith. I am thinking about ditching the night sights while I am there and having them throw on some adjustables as I am still trying to find a load I like.
  3. Went to the range today to shoot a rifle match. Broke out the Springfield pistol and put about 50 rounds through it. Zero issues. I guess the rigger travel was the issue. We have a bit before the next ISPSA match so I still think I am going to drop it off at the smith just to make sure.
  4. I WILL. I have ashot a great deal of full auto weapons, but a full auto 1911 is not my idea of fun.
  5. That was the first suggestion. The primary reason I am leaning towards the trigger travel is that without changing anything internally, I am replicate the issue by adjusting the trigger in. I adjust the trigger travel out and I can get the hammer to fall everytime I hold the trigger to the rear and rack the slide. I adjust the trigger travel in and I cannot get the hammer to fall while holding the trigger and racking the slide.
  6. That is my intent. I put everything back the way it was and only adjusted the trigger travel screw. I cannot replicate the problem now. We shall see. On another note, the ammo I was shooting today was 230 GN RN under 5.2 grains of titegroup. So those are getting shot tomorrow and I am going with something a bit more tame.
  7. So, I have a 1911 Springfield Armory Loaded with about 600-800 rounds through it. I have added grips, a clip-on mag well and an extended mag release. No internal gunsmithing or parts replacements. I was shooting a stage and the gun fired off a burst of 3 rounds. Then two standard shots, then another 3 round burts. Nobody was hurt and I managed to keep all rounds on target. I took it to the safe area after dropping my mags off and began to trouble shoot. I would pull the trigger, rack the slide, and every 3-4 times I did this, the hammer would follow. We took out the sear spring, checked it and it seemed to work. I shot it again and sure enough, three round burst. I get home and began to tear it down. Everything looked fine. I swapped out the sear, disconnect, hammer and sear spring from my SA Operator with the loaded. The loaded's hammer would still fall after a slide rack with me holding the trigger to the rear. The Operator, with the loaded parts would not. So only the loaded would have this problem. Then I noticed that the trigger travel screw on the loaded as visible threads whereas the Operator did not. I adjusted the trigger travel and screwed the travel screw in the loaded deeper. Sure enough, I cannot replicate the problem now. Has anyone ever heard of or saw the trigger travel screw allowing the weapon to fire on full auto? Thanks for the help.
  8. Thank you for all of the replies. I was able to push myself a bit more this past weekend. I was able to accomplish the following with my 1911: Draw fire one on a 12"plate at 10 yards in under one second. I was able to consistently do this. Draw fire one, reload, fire one in 2.21. Best time on smoke and hope was 3.36 with all hits.
  9. That is why I do not have one. I run a bone stock SA Loaded. My upgrade will be a SA TRP. Maybe when I retire and start making real money I might get a Wilson or Dawson.
  10. Hello everyone, So a bit of a background on myself as I feel it is germane to the topic. I have been in the USMC for just under 18 years. I spent most of my time in the corps as an 0321 in Force Recon and have had a 1911 on my hip for years. I have recently started competing in USPSA matches (single stack) and like most military guys with no competition experience, I am getting humbled every day. And I like that. I have a lot to learn about stage planning and sequencing my shots. I have a good amount of shooting experience and am very confident with weapons. However, in all of the shooting packages and courses I have done in the military, any safety issue was an immediate adverse and removal from the course or even platoon. I find that my times on stages are slow, but I am generally shooting all alphas with the occasional Charlie. I think I am afraid to really push myself as I have been conditioned to shoot accurate rather than fast. I am not molasses slow, but I know that I can go faster. The whole "never shoot faster than you can accurately engage" voices stay in my head during a stage. And for me, accuracy is hitting an index card at 10 yards. I find that I am not transitioning to another target until I have confirmed that I have two solid A zone hits. Again, a training thing from combat-oriented shooting of checking work through sights. So, my question is, what made you or gave you the confidence to really push yourself. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and be safe.
  11. I have had a Dillon XL 750 in the cart online for months now. I keep talking myself in and out of it. I am 40 and have been reloading since I was 16. However, only for hunting and PR. So at most, 20-50 rounds at a time. I have just started shooting more USPSA and 3-gun stuff. The $1,200 for the Dillon set up I want is hard to swallo. I decided I could get buy with my single stage and chargemaster. I sat down the other night to load up 250 45 ACP rounds on my rock chucker for a steel challenge this weekend. I made it to 50. The XL 750 should be here sometime next week.
  12. I was at Lejeune. I am now at Cherry Point. I am the OIC of the range complex. I mostly shoot the ZSA stuff at Flatwoods, but am shooting with BR this Saturday.
  13. Thank you. I plan to soak up as much as I can. I am shooting another level one match this Saturday. I wish/hope the 1911 8 round mags I just ordered show up in time.
