  1. If the ejection port is lowered, it is an external modification, which would have made it illegal previously.

But checking the June 25, 2009 Production rules revisions:

"21.4 After-market slides and barrels – provided they are the same length, contour and caliber as original factory standard.

SLIDES: Current rules remain in effect –You may replace the slide with an OEM or aftermarket slide which is of the same length, contour and caliber as the originalslide for that model of gun."

If it is the same length, contour and caliber as factory standard, according to the revisions, it is legal.

    Hmmm.

  2. Unless that specific model is on the USPSA list approved for Production, it isn't.

    Here're the approved CZs: "CZ100 (24 oz.), CZ100B (24 oz.), CZ2075 Rami 9mm & 40 S&W (25.5 oz.), CZ2075 Rami P 9mm & 40 S&W (23.5 oz.), CZ75 (34.3 oz.), CZ75 Compact 9mm (33 oz.), CZ75 P01 (27.2 oz.), CZ75 SemiCompact (33 oz.), CZ75 SP-01 (41.2 oz.), CZ75 SP-01 Shadow 9mm 4.72" (42 oz.), CZ75 SP-01 Tactical (41 oz.), CZ75B 9mm & 40 S&W (34.3 oz.), CZ75B Stainless (35.3 oz.), CZ75BD (34.3 oz.), CZ75D Compact (28.3 oz.), CZ83 (28.3 oz.), CZ85 (35.2 oz.), CZ85 Combat (35.2 oz.), CZ85B (35.2 oz.), CZ97B (40.8 oz.)"

  3. Carefully moving the gun to an empty pit with an RO accompanying the shooter is probably the next best option -- but I'd probably need activity to have been stopped for ~ 15 minutes already before authorizing that....

Absolutely agree...and with notifying the match director at Level 1 match. Fortunately, I tend to be hastier in replying to posts when I multitask than I would be in dealing with a safety issue at the range ;) .

Fortunately have never run into a problem yet that a few cool heads couldn't resolve on the line in five minutes.

  4. Next thing I'll hear is "Range is clear".............

Am I missing the joke? I am kinda dense at times biggrin.gif

"8.3.8 "Range Is Clear" – This declaration signifies the end of the Course of

fire. Once the declaration is made, officials and competitors may move

forward to score, patch, reset targets etc."

I was thinking the same thing - although I think he may have been referring to "Range is Safe!" --- which I had to double take on what Boz wrote - but then again - I could be just as lost....

You guys are correct, apparently I can't even type the incorrect range command.......sorry

But that's a good thing...it means you've been indoctrinated well

Some people can't get it right when they try, you can't get it wrong even if you try.

  5. When I was working on my CRO, my mentor would slap my knuckles with a virtual ruler whenever I tried to compel competitor action through anything other than vision barriers or other elements of course design. Freestyle is the guiding light and it makes a course designer work harder...but inevitably results in better stages.

  8. Well, first off, you can't have a stage that is only steel plates:

4.3.1.4 Various sizes of metal plates may be used (see Appendix B5),

however, metal plates must not be used exclusively in a course

of fire. At least one authorized paper target or Popper must be

included in each course of fire.

A stage requiring mandatory movement on a miss, would also be in opposition to 1.1.5:

1.1.5 Freestyle – USPSA matches are freestyle. Competitors must be permitted

to solve the challenge presented in a freestyle manner, and to shoot

targets on an “as and when visible” basis. Courses of fire must not

require mandatory reloads nor dictate a shooting position, location or

stance, except as specified below. However, conditions may be created,

and barriers or other physical limitations may be constructed, to compel

a competitor into shooting positions, locations or stances.

1.1.5.1 Level I matches may use shooting boxes and specify where or

when specific target arrays may be engaged, and may specify

mandatory reloads in short and medium courses only (not in a

    long course).

Stages with steel must be Comstock, so the competitor can make up as many shots as they wish from any position within the shooting area.

Not a permitted COF, for a number of reasons.

  9. Followers are generally interchangeable and various generations of followers were phased in to improve/resolve feeding issues that may have developed over generations of Glock models, magazines and changes in factory ammo. One is not necessarily better than another, but if a certain follower isn't working for you, it may be time to experiment with a later number follower. Later followers may not work properly in some earlier generations of magazines.

  10. Hey everyone,

I'm looking to start out on a new 308 target rifle and was looking for a quality inexpensive optic and found the Millett TRS-1 and don't know much about them. If anybody has seen a review or has handled one and has some advice that would be awesome.

    Thanks

I have one on a .308. Are there better scopes available...sure. Does it offer great value and features for the price...you bet. I'm really happy with mine. If you're on a tight budget, you probably will be, too.

  11. Hello: The cheap Blade Tech plastic holder works great with the slide mounted dot. It has an open bottom so the comp will stick out a bit about the same amount as a G34. I could draw quicker with the cheapy Blade Tech than the Blade Tech for a Glock 34. You want the injection molded Blade Tech. My open G17 used a Jager comp and shot very flat with HS-6 powder. Thanks, Eric

I disliked how grit seemed to embed/bury itself in the injection molded holsters more easily than in kydex. Eventually I got rid of all of 'em but one, which I carved out to fit a Buckmark Contour with Tasco red dot scope.

  12. I was thinking on similar lines recently, wondering whether a holster for the G17L might fit an Open G17 with a slid-ride sight and a "slide profile" comp like the Jager.

    Curtis

Is the Jager the most similar in shape to slide?

Sure looks like that to me. And they advertise it as such. The key would be length compared to length of G17L, I guess. If I ever decide to go Open with my G17, the length of the LW threaded barrel with Jager comp will be the first thing I will be checking out.

Sure would make for a cheaper setup that a full-race holster...and if I built one, it would have to be on the cheap. Jager offers a nice package price on a setup including the STS, which would be the way I'd go as well.

  13. I need to buy some slugs for the season. I've been shooting Remington reduced recoil slugs in my FN SLP and getting so-so accuracy. Any suggestions for reasonably priced slugs?

Have you tried different chokes. In my Benelli M1 I started getting improved groups with Remington Managed Recoil 1 oz. Sluggers (RL12RS) when I went to either a Modified or Light Modified choke. YMMV.

  14. please remember to thank the sponsors for the contributions and remeber them when you need something. We have a great group of folks that sponsor our match and many others around the country. Some of the sponsors from last year didn't return and we all know that times are tough, they can't sponsor every match. I posted a list earlier on this thread for the sponsors I would gr3eatly appreciate a shout out to them saying thank you.

The last of my e-mails to all the sponsors for my prize package and to STI (don't I wish  ) went out this morning, along with an order to one of the sponsors.

Folks, the sponsors really do pay attention to a brief thank you when they are deciding what match to support next year. I wish I had a nickle or two for every time I received back an e-mail thanking me for my thank-you and remarking how few they receive :(

And thank you to all the competitors who took the time to thank the ROs for days of hard work. We're happy to help you achieve your goals, keep you safe and attempt to keep the playing field as level as possible, but a thank you and a positive attitude is always appreciated. In general, a great group of people went through Stage 4 and nearly all held it together well, even when things didn't go their way

  15. Thanks for the ruling everybody.

Ultimately the only "ruling" that would count would be from John Amidon, if you're really concerned. You could request an official ruling through the e-mail link to him in NROI portion of the USPSA Web site.

  16. The vanek seemed to have manipulated (shaved) the trigger bar assembly where it hits the firing pin safety. The metal comes to a point that made me a little uncomfortable that the safety would actually engage/disengage at the correct time. The drop safety channel was obstructed by a set screw seemingly disabled the drop safety as well although I'm not an expert on that and maybe he figured a work around, yet I couldn't figure it out. In my non-pro Glock armorer mind this could lead to slamfiring or other maladies although I didn't experience any....<snip> I would give the Glocktriggers a thumbs up for their design that seemed safer in comparison to the vanek which seemed to disable the drop safety and manipulated the firing pin safety, for the crisper reset and for the take up in pre-travel. I'm not sure of the price difference at this writing.

I think you might be a bit confused. As a longtime Vanek user, I'm familiar with his triggers. The set screw you're describing is a common way (Lone Wolf sells trigger housings with a similar mod) of reducing overtravel. Nothing unsafe about it: all safeties function exactly as intended. Never a problem for me in almost 40,000 rounds on two Vanek triggers in two different Glocks. As always, YMMV.
