Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Hi, I agree with Kellyn. FF tubes are necessary for shooting using props as support. When I was still competing with a SIG 551, I lost places in national level matches due to this. Kept missing far away plates due to the POI change, even though they were not huge. FF tubes are relatively cheap option and would be my next upgrade to a new rifle after match trigger set and a comp. Only fourth on the list would then be low mass bolt and adjustable gas block, if the rifle came with milspec ones. To avoid all this upgrading, I buy have bought my AR-rifles custom built to have all of this form day 1. /isto
  2. Hi Nicolas, 3-Gun Sweden is correct. All UP rifles are custom built. The upper and lower are UP, barrels are LW. Basically every other part can be chosen from commonly available parts when you order the rifle. Usually the gas block and comp are also UP production, and I definitely would pick the trigger group as well, like I mentioned in my previous comment.
  3. Hi, Many Finnish open shooters use UP, but the winner Raine was not one of them. In Standard, 1st and 2nd and 5th place shooters used them. That is Mika, Mikael and myself. UP is a great rifle. As mentioned before, the price is actually quite good as you can get it built with exactly the components you want and do not need to buy anything extra. If you like thin barrels, then the UP might not be for you. The LW barrels are massive. If you can afford it, buy the UP modular trigger group. I have one and it is still making me smile every shot after using for close to 2k rounds. BR, Isto
  4. Agree 100%. I would maybe add a step 6.5: Repeat a few more times. And add beating Kelly Neal to step 7. ;-) With Irons your zero is key to success. Know it, do not think you know it. See step 3 last part. I have blown matches with uncertain zero for 300m. You should verify your long distance zero as often as possible _with_your_match_ammo_. It is not enough to zero short distance (I do not trust my 150m zero) and use a ballistic calculator to know where you will hit at 300m or longer. A small error closer is huge at the far distance. Verifying your zero often is needed to average out different wind conditions. I have been bitten by wind zero as well. I thought I was spot on but had miscalculated the wind drift when zeroing for the match. In a competition I always take the most stable shooting position available for shots past 50m, even if taking it loses some time. It is too easy to miss those long distance paper shots we tend to have a lot here in Finland. Also, I find that in the end I shoot faster overall even though the stable position takes some time to get to. This is due to the follow up shots being faster. isto
  5. I have now the Uronen Precision Alu carrier on both my AR:s. Will run them this season. So far it has been all smiles. You will need to keep the gun cleaner or open the gas port a little extra for reliablity during long match days. I have run it now for a few hundred rounds and no issues. Only problem is it can be hard to shoot as you are laughing at the missing recoil all the time. isto
  6. Hi, I use regular A2 rear sights. At the front I have Lipski and Uronen Precision front sight bases with Lyman and Anschutz competition front sights with normal post sight inserts. Maximizing the sight radius helps a lot for accuracy at 300m in my opinion, even though I only use 18 inch barrels. isto
  7. Hi Jim, I completely agree. My point is the rest of the free world pretty much uses IPSC rules. There can be differences like the size of the allowed comp in rifle. Using international rules _for_the_equipment_ would allow us foreign shooters to join with our normal hardware. Just a practical point. I have to say I would love to come your way to learn what your 3Gun matches are like. I bet the common factors are challenging and fun! isto
  8. Hi, please define "real 3Gun"? IPSC has 3Gun tournament rules. However, each gun is currently used in a separate component match, and then the results are just combined. So no Multi-gun stages. If that is your definition of "real 3Gun", then you are correct. If you would like to get foreign shooters, it might be a good idea to use IPSC rules for the gun divisions. Even though that would limit the amount of division for rifle for you guys in the USA. isto
  9. Looks Good! Any other forum members going to the match? I will be there. isto
  10. Hi, Any AR-15 can be found in use here. Top shooters have all kinds of premium AR:s: Oberland, JP, Uronen Precision and so on. A lot of shooters buy a good base gun and modify it to their needs. Whatever rifle you buy, the most important thing to do after is to tune/change the trigger group to a competition one. JP and Jard are the most common ones. After that a good comp and adjustable gas block would be next on my list. isto
  11. I think this technique is fine, but I prefer to drop the old mag by pushing the mag release with my trigger finger the same time my left hand grabs the new mag. This way the old mag has fallen off already when I get the new one up for inserting it. This saves time as I can directly put it in, not first ram the old one out. Also I am not convinced his racking under the gun is the fastest way for iron sighted gun. If needed, I always have racked the AK:s by tilting the gun slightly and grabbing the racking lever over the gun. To me the mag seems to be in the way if you do it under the gun like in the video above. If you have optics on the AK, things change obviously. isto
  12. Thanks Kelly! Mika and Mikko had a good chance to win as they were leading me after their Kouvola stages by a margin. I did not shoot well on those. But they shot their second day at Hamina and had even more difficult time there, so in the end I still got it. Too bad for Mika, being second with less than 2 ponts out of 1100 is tough. I wonder what went wrong for Svärre. I was expecting him to be very strong as many stages were IMO well suited for his shooting style. I did not have a change to talk to him after the match. I personally was very happy about getting a lot of foreign shooters from all over Europe, I think 48 in total from 10 different countries. We only missed the Swedes and you US guys! isto
  13. Hi All, I will be assistant MD at the Rifle match: I am heading the match Kouvola range. For those interested I started a blog where I try to keep readers updated on how the match is forming up: http://nrm2010.blogspot.com/ At the moment planning is well under way and looking good. We will have a nice mix of shooting distances all the way up to 300m. /isto p.s. KellyN, can you send me some of those special targets you have?
  14. JohnGaultsGun, Good point. I try check the zero before a match to the known shooting distances, if the info is available. That way I will have no suprises in the match, except maybe the wind... /isto
