I have just bought a dillon 550b. I am planning on reloading 45acp ammo to start. 223 later maybe another rifle load later than that. I thought I read somewhere in the instructions that the loader came setup for large primers and the small powder bar. After looking, it is indeed the case. I have looked at the installation instructions and nowhere does it show how to change from the small powder bar to the large one. I plan on loading the 45 acp ammo with only 4.6 grains of WST (light load for bullseye shooting). So do I need to change the powder bar? Or leave it alone? I'm in kind of a quandry about this. My vote is for the Sig. I have a 229 SAS and it feeds perfectly and never fails me. Best investment I ever made.

My 650 is not giving me primer feed problems. It seems that as the shell advances to statiion 2 about half the time the primer gets ejected in the the overflow area instead of going into the shell. It has gotten so bad that I have to remove the index pin for station 4 to check and see if a primer is in the case before I seat the bullet. What a pain!!!! Anyone have any suggestions as to why this is doing this????? thanks, mark

I have two magazines that cause the bullet to nose dive as they come out of the mag. They really don't work like the other 4 I have . They all seem to work great. Any tips on toubleshooting these mags? Thanks in advance.

I just bought a 45 acp and want to shoot single stack with it. Anyone have a recipie for 200 grain bullets. I am currently shooting 40 cal 180 grain bullets with Tite Group powder. Thanks, Mark

I just replaced my ring indexer on my Dillon press and when I was checking out the operation, I found that when I tried to check the primer seater hits the primer disc. It is just not advancing far enough, if I barely move the primer indexing arm just a little bit, the primer seater works fine. If I cycle the loader to index the next round the same thing happens. When I tool the primer system apart at first, (I thought I might as well check out everything) I found a primer sideways in the rotary primer disc. Anyone know what I need to do to get the primers to index properly? I suppose I will call Dillon tomorrow and see what they have to say also. Thanks, Mark

I have owned my XL650 (used) for only a month and have loaded a lot of ammo with it already. When it works it is great but when it breaks it is frustrating. I bought the reloader used and when I first started using it the indexer ring broke. I called Dillon and they sent me a new one. No problem right, I talked to Dillon to make sure that the machine was right and even had a Grand Master come over and look it over. All is well again. Guess what last Saturday night, I broke another indexer ring, same place just like before. I call Dillon they told me that I didn't have th set screw set on the turret. But I did, they told me that since it is brass tipped it sometimes wears out and causes the shell plate to tighten as you cycle the reloader. So I am waiting for a new indexer ring, pawl and pawl spring and of course a new screw. But I am out of ammo and sitting on my hands. I think with all of the automation comes a lot of frustration in my opinion. ' Can anyone offer me a solution to the breaking ring indexer. Everyone I know has never had one break. Thanks, Mark

I have a primer stuck inside one of my small pistol primer tubes. Should I just pitch the tube and order some more or is there a safe way to get it out of the tube? Thanks

I use a Dillon 650 also and it is great. I use Tite Group with 180 grain TC Lazer Cut bullets I use 5.5 grains and it works great.

Has anyone ever changed the ring indexer on the XL650? If so how difficult is it and where does the long spring hook to? Exploded views drive me crazy, I must be dislexic. Thanks, Mark

I sure could use some help guys. I bought some Titegroup Hodgson powder and 180 grain Laser Cut TC bullets. I can't find any reloading data for this combination. Does anyone have any data on these bullets and powder combinations. I want the velocity to be 950 to 975 feet per second and I want to use them for Major IPSC classification. Thanks In advance. The OAL is right within the Speer Specs, this gun has done it on both reloaded and factory ammunition. All of the primers are seated correctly, and it does it with factory ammunition also. Why would you not want to slide to lock back on the last round? I am a rookie so please bear with me but I don't understand the slide not locking back on the last round deal. How would you know when your out of ammo?

I just bought a SV custom and I am having some reliability issues that concern me. 1. It failed to feed the round completly into the chamber. (heavier recoil spring fixed this I hope) 2. Firing pin fails to ignite the primer. Most times if I pull the hammer back and fire again, it ignites the primer and the round fires. (gunsmith removed and polised the firing pin, there was a slight burr on it according to him). It still misfires almost as much though still. 3. Most times when the last round is fired, it fails to lock the slide back into the open position. This gun is a nail driver when it shoots but I am concerned that I have bought something that is going to cause me problems on top of problems. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Mark

I have heard the there is a possiblility of new SVI/SV magazines not functioning well out of the box. Can someone tell me: 1. So SVI and STI magazines interchange? 2. What is the process to tune up a stock magazine. 3. Anyone know a vendor who sells the magazines? I just bought a SV and I need to get some magazines for her. The guy I bought the gun from does not want to part with his because he still has another SV he shoots. Any suggestions on how I can get magazines for a decent price with good performance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark

I had a stroke of luck today and was able to buy a SV in 40 cal for a rightgeous price. Not really much more than the cost of a Glock 35 with "options" ie trigger job, barrel and misc other goodies. This gun is truly a beautiful piece and I love the way it feels in my hand. I was told by my financial manager (the wife) that I had to shoot it first before I bought wich is fine by me. I want to thank all you guys for the information. Wish me luck on the gun ok? Hopefully it will really help me out on the range.

Yes I have shot two IPSC matches with my Sig Saur 229 SAS. It is a great gun and I really like it. I have been told repeatedly that it is the wrong gun for IPSC. The barrel is too short supposidly. Other people have told me that the people that say that mush have barrel envy lol. I just know that most of the people I have shot with use Glocks, XD40's or 45's. and alot of them are shooting single stack. I know that the recoil on my gun has been an issue for accuracy and the gun is a DA only gun so the trigger pull is a little stout, that also changed the accuracy I believe in rapid fire shootine. The sight radius is a little short due to the shorter barrel and if the barrel were longer, the recoil would be more managable. I have been talking to a GM who shoots here in Edmond Oklahoma where I live and I will take a 2 hour lesson with him tomorrow. He shoots an XD40 plus many other guns, some glocks some STI etc. I really think he knows the business. He will give me the opportunity to shoot some of those various guns to see which ones I like. Then we will decide wich one I can afford. As you all know, this sport gets really expesive very fast. Thanks to all for the help and please give me all the advise you care to. I have been looking at the Glock 35 for an IPSC gun. Anyone think this is a good choice. I have also condidered the XD40 as well. And if money is no object (which unfortunately it is) the STI guns. Thanks, Mark
